The Big Brother Files #33: Is there Any Way To Stop Them?

Hello everyone

With all the accruing evidence that the real Shadow Government is behind the 9-11 tyrannical plot that blew the WTC and Pentagon buildings - a plan very much reminiscent of what Russia's secret service did in 1999 in Moscow, blowing up several apartment buildings (and killing 300 people) to have an excuse to bomb Chechnya into submission (see "Tycoon: EU Should Probe 1999 Attacks" (Mar 5)
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20020305/ap_on_re_eu/britain_russia_berezovsky_3), we are left to wonder if anything or anyone can still stop "them" in their mad dash to expand their dominion over the whole planet. Some people in London and in the USA have begun expressing their outrage at all these disgusting actions as you'll see below, but it will take much more.

Something like a global spiritual revolution that will make such things so deeply repulsive to anyone as to make even thinking about such horrors impossible. My gut-feeling is that we are getting there!...

U.S. to Weigh Computer Chip Implant

WASHINGTON (AP) - A Florida technology company is poised to ask the government for permission to market a first-ever computer ID chip that could be embedded beneath a person's skin.

For airports, nuclear power plants and other high security facilities, the immediate benefits could be a closer-to-foolproof security system. But privacy advocates warn the chip could lead to encroachments on civil liberties.

The implant technology is another case of science fiction evolving into fact. Those who have long advanced the idea of implant chips say it could someday mean no more easy-to-counterfeit ID cards nor dozing security guards.

Just a computer chip - about the size of a grain of rice - that would be difficult to remove and tough to mimic.

Other uses of the technology on the horizon, from an added device that would allow satellite tracking of an individual's every movement to the storage of sensitive data like medical records, are already attracting interest across the globe for tasks like foiling kidnappings or assisting paramedics.

Applied Digital Solutions' new ``VeriChip'' is another sign that Sept. 11 has catapulted the science of security into a realm with uncharted possibilities - and also new fears for privacy.

``The problem is that you always have to think about what the device will be used for tomorrow,'' said Lee Tien, a senior attorney for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a privacy advocacy group.

``It's what we call function creep. At first a device is used for applications we all agree are good but then it slowly is used for more than it was intended,'' he said.

Applied Digital, based in Palm Beach, Fla., says it will soon begin the process of getting Food and Drug Administration approval for the device, and intends to limit its marketing to companies that ensure its human use is voluntary.

``The line in the sand that we draw is that the use of the VeriChip would always be voluntarily,'' said Keith Bolton, chief technology officer and a vice president at Applied Digital. ``We would never provide it to a company that intended to coerce people to use it.''

Thousands at peace rally call for end to Afghan bombing

3 March 2002

Thousands of protesters have gathered at a rally in central London to call for a halt to the bombing in Afghanistan and the threat to other countries such as Iraq.

Police estimate around 7,500 demonstrators had joined the march by the time it reached Trafalgar Square, although organisers said 20,000 people attended.

Demonstrators waving "Stop the War" and "Hands off Iraq" placards gathered in Hyde Park before the march. The crowd then moved to Trafalgar Square to listen to speeches from prominent anti-war campaigners.

Veteran Labour left-winger and former MP Tony Benn received a huge cheer as he called on the demonstrators to use non-violent resistance against the Government if it entered into war with Iraq.

He said: "The moment that bombing begins, we go to where we are and we stop for an hour. Stop the buses, stop the trains. It's got to be something we take up in every town and village.

"Go home today, talk to your schools, raise it in the churches, the temples, the mosques, the synagogues and at work, because we could well be heading for a Third World War because of stupid men who are in government and are governing in our name.

"And then we continue to stop for one hour every day. That is my proposal."

The empire strikes forward

America is trying to take over the world, and no one can stop us except us

CLIP

If, as the cliche goes, Americans learn world geography through wars, we're about to become experts. Just last week, the Pentagon -- which, in the wake of Sept. 11, is now open for business in over 140 countries -- reached agreements with the militaries of Georgia (the country) and Yemen, two places we've never set boot in before; put our soldiers more squarely in harm's way in Colombia; and stripped away the fictions that our puppet in Kabul is controlling all of Afghanistan, and that the war there is over. This week, the United States will be the focus of renewed hopes for Israeli/Palestinian peace, attached to a plan being floated by Saudi Arabia, as Dick Cheney travels to the Middle East.

Bush's proposed new $397 billion military budget exceeds military spending for the rest of the world combined, and that doesn't even count non-DoD line items, like the entire nuclear, space, and intelligence programs. The federal budget surplus Bush inherited has evaporated in a flash, done in by a poor economy, tax cuts for the rich, and military spending.

Revelations last week that the Bushites had set into motion a "shadow government" to operate in the event of nuclear attack were largely met with media approval, even though the White House hadn't apparently bothered to tell Congress, and even though it was the Republicans, you'll remember, who were arguing during a budget impasse a few years ago that nobody would really miss the government if it shut down, anyway. Funny how a little power changes your perspective.

Not too long ago, one could hear pols of all sorts fret about the foolishness of America's acting like a "global policeman"; after Sept. 11, however, that's exactly the role the United States has embraced, enthusiastically, and virtually without visible dissent. In the halls of power, Tom Daschle, the highest-ranking Democrat in the country, was blasted last week for asking some pretty meek questions about the war (sample: "Where's Bin Laden?"), with Republicans lambasting him for daring to criticize the president "while we're fighting a war." Trouble is, said war, by this administration's own reckoning, may last 50 years or more. Are we supposed to stay quiet that whole time?

The attacks of September 11 were an enormous jolt to the country, as much psychic as anything else -- horrific as the death toll was, countries around the world have felt that vulnerability for years. But needing to do a better job of defending our own territory does not automatically translate into the need to control everyone else's. If anything, the reverse is true, because there's no reason to believe anyone else likes it any better when foreign warriors bring violence to their country than we did when it happened to us.

And it's positively stunning that so far, the greatest intelligence and military failure in American history -- the inability to either anticipate or defend against the attacks of Sept. 11 -- has not only failed to result in any public questioning, let alone wholesale changes, of the agencies that failed us most spectacularly, but has managed to result in giving those agencies enormous new powers and budgets to do more of what failed us in the first place.

CLIP

Someone, somewhere, at some point, has to start questioning these priorities. Elsewhere in the world, questioning has been widespread, among allies as well as skeptics, in halls of power as well as the street. Here, however, what little skepticism has surfaced has confined itself almost entirely to Afghanistan, while the larger picture goes almost entirely unremarked.

A national student coalition has called for demonstrations in Washington next month, but so far they don't seem to have gathered much momentum. The most visible anti-warriors have been, to put in charitably, from the political fringe, and more reputable skeptics have either been smeared as traitors or dismissed as wingnuts by a hostile media and an administration strikingly hostile to open debate, accountable government, and the Bill of Rights.

So what is to be done? I wish I knew. First, perhaps, is to actually name what is happening: the United States is seeking to conquer the world, militarily as well as economically, in a counterproductive effort to "protect" us. The United States, remarkably, now reserves the right (thru lunatic propositions like the "axis of evil") to invade and replace any foreign government it dislikes, anywhere in the world, at any time, for any reason. And is justifying such actions in the utterly self-deluding notion that we're spreading freedom and self-determination, and that everyone will love us for it. (Or, alternatively, that if they don't love us it's because we didn't spin well enough.)

Dear All,

The first issue of War Times, the new bilingual English/Spanish anti-war newspaper, is hot off the press. Due to tremendous demand, we printed 75,000 copies. We are proud and not a little astonished to report that the paper is being distributed by volunteers in hundreds of cities in all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico! Thanks to all of you for your support and distribution efforts. We have few copies left, so write soon if you wish to be a distributor.

The issue includes an exclusive interview with Danny Glover, and articles about: the meeting of Afghan and U.S. victims of war, what "permanent war" looks like in the Philippines, the refusal of thousands of Israeli soldiers to continue the occupation of Palestine, the bloated military budget, the effect of 9/11 on immigrants, a satire about the detention of Arabic numerals, and others.

We look forward to your feedback on the look and contents of the paper, especially regarding how people who are not already anti-war reacted to it.

Coming Soon: Flying Fascism on Your Doorstep

by Al Martin
February 20, 2002

New high-tech surveillance equipment revealed at the Redstone Arsenal's Weekly Arms Bazaar promises a dismal future for freedom-loving people of the world.

The Friendly Colonel has filed the latest report from the most recent arms show at the Redstone Arsenal, which has been shut down and is essentially used for storage. Housed in this facility are several thousands of the new modified urban control Humvees, equipped with 14.5 mm cannons as well as many aerials and satellite dishes. Some are camouflage in color, but most of them are dark matte gray. They looked like they were painted with a sealer coat of paint (primer paint), before the final coat is painted on depending on the theater of operation in which they will be used.

Of greater significance was the introduction of the new DCHD (Domestic Control Hover Drones), which were displayed and offered for sale. They're about a meter in diameter and probably weigh about twenty kilograms each. It looks like a life ring (life preserver) with a motor in the middle of it.

The Chinese and Russian arms dealers were interested in them, and evidently the British Government has been one of this device's primary buyers. Evidently we're not selling them to a lot of foreign countries at this time, but still building inventories for ourselves. Each of these DCHDs costs $178,000 a copy.

He met with an Iranian colonel who is some sort of an engineer, who was trying to explain to him what these things can do. The Friendly Colonel admitted that he didn't even know such technology even existed.

Here are some specs. They can hover to a maximum ceiling of 500 feet, although they're really meant to hover about 50 feet off the ground. They not only hover, but they can go forward and back. Their maximum speed is 50 miles an hour, and they can stay aloft for up to three hours at a time. There are counter-rotating rotors in the middle of the device with what appears to be an engine on top. All of the internal components appear to be made of some sort of super-advanced composite, like boron-graphite composite material that is very, very light, but is also very strong. The propellers are also made of this same material, and they weigh practically nothing.

There are two counter-rotating propellers, two propellers that rotate counter-synchronously, the way the Russians used to build turbo-prop airplanes like the TU-95s. The reason they do it that way is because it gives a much higher speed, lift and stability.

They're controlled electronically -- either through satellites or through what they call Fixed or Mobile Relay Command Centers, built right into the Humvee. They showed how the two worked together.

The Friendly Colonel reports that inside this Humvee, which can control a certain quad of these things, it looked like the inside of a spaceship. The components and views screens, which appear to be holographic, and the technology are simply amazing -- "It's like nothing you ever saw."

The surveillance drones come in different color schemes -- a very dark black matte for night use or a two-tone matte white and sky blue top -- so it's hard to see them during the day.

They started one of these hover drones up, and he said it virtually makes no sound at all. Even if you're ten feet away, you couldn't hear the thing. That's how quiet they are.

They are fitted with what is purported to be one of the most-advanced micro-cameras ever invented by the US Government. Through satellites, their transmission capability is virtually limitless. Satellites can access its transmissions and give it directions, signals, codes, and tell it what to do.

They can be pre-programmed for certain flight paths, but the computer has the ability to think, so that if it acquires a target, it can deviate from a flight path. It also has sensors so it can get out of the way and not run into a tree or the side of a building. It also has infrared cameras and high-resolution night cameras with multiple neutral density filters.

They also have see-through capability -- with a thermal imaging sensor camera, which can actually see inside of buildings and see through walls. The device is meant to be used as a domestic control drone. It not only has cameras, but the most sensitive audio receivers that have ever been made. It can pick up a human conversation from five hundred feet away -- one human conversation. Not only can they photograph and relay still shots and real time video and transmit video, but they also have a "non-lethal" weapons capability, some sort of stun gun based on energy discharge technology. They're powered by what's known as a fusion power cell, which looks like a square pack of film. The power is produced through some sort of chemical reaction.

These drones can stop and detain people. Since they have a microphone, they can hover right in your face, while you're looking into the camera. It also has a transmitter, which can play pre-recorded messages, or someone can actually talk to you even though they're a thousand miles away.

During the demonstration, they hovered the thing around the room and then it came down in front of this Air Force captain's face, and it said, "Citizen, kindly present your national identification card."

Then a little telescoping plate comes out of it, and you're supposed to hold your national identification card in front of this plate. They wouldn't reveal all of its abilities of the drone because some of it was still classified. The manufacturer is the same company, located in Indiana, which makes other equipment for the NSA.

Let's think about where this device could be used. How about South Central Los Angeles street corners? Using these devices, only Government-Authorized crack dealers would be able to sell their product. Crack dealers, not approved by the Government, could then be sanctioned -- or removed.

The exhibit hall had high-definition presentation screens around the room, which showed how these things could be used. It showed them moving down a darkened street at night, and then it showed what the cameras were seeing, pictures of the people and how they looked through an infra red camera and an ultra violet camera and how different images looked through different camera receptors. It looked like it was right out of Star Trek.

(Author's Note: Usually we wouldn't publish this information, which could be construed as conspiratorial in nature. However, since it came from a reliable source, actually present on site, we decided it was important for Al Martin Raw readers to know the facts.)

There was actually a computer generated voice simulator, which announced, "Base price starts at just $178,543 for the Class IV model." Then it proceeded to announce the prices for all the options and add-ons, which could bring the total price up to $350,000.

And who would be most interested in buying these items? As the Friendly Colonel pointed out, as usual, there were a lot of Russian and Chinese arms dealers there -- but you never really know their ultimate clients. And there were some military officers (they had staff patches) who appeared to be from the Office of Homeland Security, although they don't have military designation insignia yet.

These surveillance drones could be used in Small Town America -- to cruise down the streets to seek out those who are potential threats to the security of the State - those who are "disloyal," those who are "different," and those who have already been deemed to be suspicious by Neighborhood Watch Groups, following the new protocols and reported to the newly created Civilian Defense Force.

At any rate, it was a very slick and very well done presentation. They had the giant Australian prawns, lightly fried in a light batter and served with an oriental plum sauce. The Friendly Colonel says they were just out of this world -- and there was an open bar, of course. He said there's nothing like having taxpayer-funded prime rib and shrimp.

Coming soon to your neighborhood -- sci-fi fascism. People already understand that this advanced technology exists, and the government has not denied that they are using miniaturized fusion power cells. The reason they're not making a big deal out of it is because people would say, "let's replace the oil industry with fusion power." And that is something that even I understand could not be done -- without massive economic dislocation, of course.

Among the newest nonlethal military weapons (developed by San Antonio's Southwest Research Institute) is a spray-on, whitish gel (dubbed "banana peel in a can") that is super-slippery and which the Marine Corps believes can be used to coat the ground to keep crowds from advancing on embassies or military bases. In tests, volunteers attempted in vain to walk across a lawn sprayed with the slime, and in fact, had they not been safety-harnessed during the tests, many would have broken bones. I ACCUSE

By Baruch Kimmerling

From the Hebrew weekly, "Kol Ha'Ir", February 1, 2002

I accuse Ariel Sharon of creating a process in which he will not only intensify the reciprocal bloodshed, but is liable to instigate a regional war and partial or nearly complete ethnic cleansing of the Arabs in the "Land of Israel."

I accuse every Labor Party minister in this government of cooperating for implementation the right wing's extremist, fascist "vision" for Israel.

I accuse the Palestinian leadership, and primarily Yasir Arafat, of shortsightedness so extreme that it has become a collaborator in Sharon's plans. If there is a second Naqba (Palestinian Holocaust), this leadership, too, will be among the causes.

I accuse the military leadership, spurred by the national leadership, of inciting public opinion, under a cloak of supposed military professionalism, against the Palestinians. Never before in Israel have so many generals in uniform, former generals, and past members of the military intelligence, sometimes disguised as "academics," taken part in public brainwashing. When the judicial committee of inquiry is established to investigate the 2002 catastrophe, they too will have to be investigated alongside the civilian criminals.

I accuse the administrators of Israel's electronic media of giving various military spokespeople the access needed for an aggressive, bellicose, almost complete takeover of the public discourse. The military is not only controlling Jenin and Ramallah but the Israeli radio and television as well.

I accuse those people, of all ranks, who order the black flag hoisted above them, and those who follow their unlawful orders. The late philosopher Yeshayahu Leibovitz was right - the occupation has ruined every good part and destroyed the moral infrastructure upon which Israeli society exists. Let's stop this march of fools and build society anew, clean of militarism and oppression and exploitation of other people, if not worse.

I accuse everyone who sees and knows all of this of doing nothing to prevent the emerging catastrophe. Sabra and Shatilla events were nothing compared to what has happened and what is going to happen to us. We have to go out not only to the town squares, but also to the checkpoints. We have to speak to the soldiers in the tanks and the troop carriers - like the Russians spoke to their soldiers when they were ordered to retake control in Red Square - before entry into Palestinian cities turns into a murderous urban warfare.

And I accuse myself of knowing all of this, yet crying little and keeping quiet too often.
