"There is nothing except a tragic death wish to prevent us from reordering our priorities, so that the pursuit of peace will take precedence over the pursuit of war."
- Buckminster Fuller
"We paint the world into being with the vibration of the words we choose to think to feel and to believe. The choosing is ours. What we perceive today, is the result of our past collective choice. We have no control over what others choose to think, feel and believe. We have infinite control over what WE choose to think, feel and believe."

"During the energies of June 1-2, 2005 on the Gregorian Calendar, which corresponds to the Mayan Sacred Calendar energies of 13 Ahau and 1 Imix, we will experience the energy that all of creation is striving towards, when no filters are blocking the passage of light between Humanity and Divinity. According to the Mayan calendar, we are approaching a major peak experience of the incoming energies serving to transform the human consciousness. 13 Ahau is the last day of the Sacred Calendar count and is believed to be the very expression of Enlightenment. June 1 (13 Ahau) is a time to celebrate an energy of completion. There are many Mayan prophecies surrounding the return of the energy of 13 Ahau. Use this day to express your dreams for the future of humanity and the planet. Indeed, it is the planet that is mediating the energy of 13 Ahau to us Humans and the planet itself will be ruled by the Sacred Calendar energy of 13 Ahau on this day. June 2 (1 Imix) is the beginning of a new cycle and an opportunity for those that want to enter more fully into the Divine flow of time and creation. The cosmos will at that point be offering a consciousness where our perception of reality will no longer be blocked by any darkening filters. The full Enlightenment of humanity will then be possible and because of the disappearance of all inner filters of darkness there will be no experience of separation from our fellow beings or from the Divine (or from our own Divine nature for that matter). All will be One and at the same time unique expressions of Divine creation."

"Prem Rawat speaks of the possibility for every person to find within themselves a peace and happiness that is not dependent on circumstances. Peace, he says, is within, and it can be felt; we just have forgotten how to get in touch with it. I see his message as pointing out to us that everyone must find peace first before helping to bring peace in the world."

Summoning UFOs -cool newscast (May 28)
First hour guest, Prophet Yahweh discussed his ability to summon UFOs on demand. The key to summoning UFOs, he explained, is living an upright life. Recently, KTNV-TV in Las Vegas sent an investigative reporter to check out his claims. Their video appears to show Prophet Yahweh calling down a UFO, much to the surprise of the reporter and several onlookers. Prophet Yahweh also announced he will begin calling down UFOs for 45 days starting on June 1, 2005. He said one of the UFOs will come close enough for all of Las Vegas to see, and may linger in the skies for a couple of days. -- Check the newscast for yourself at mms://wm-ondemand.abacast.com/prophet_yahweh/ABCnews1.wmv

Dear Lists, I got a call from ABC TV-13 this morning. They said that they wanted me to summon, over live television, for all their viewers to see on Wednesday morning, June 1, 2005! Their station reaches all of Southern Nevada and the border cities, of which Las Vegas is one of them. This is the moment I have been working so hard for! Now, shall YAHWEH, the Creator King of the universe, permanent intervene in the affairs of this world! It will be done and nothing shall hinder it! Prepare to be stunned as the first of many sightings will be documented on the first day of my first Media-Only Summoning Event starting June 1 - July 15, 2005. Yours In YAHWEH's Love And Mercy,
Prophet Yahweh Seer of Yahweh.
NOTE FROM JEAN: I smell something fishy here. Could this be a black op scam and the prelude to a summer of "smokescreen distractions" to take people's attention away from the Iraq quagmire and an assortment of other neocon malfeasance? Just a thought...

Letter to Pres Bush Concerning "Downing Street Memo" - Please Sign to Impeach Bush
(...) These are the same questions 89 Members of Congress, led by Rep. John Conyers, Jr., submitted to you on May 5, 2005. As citizens and taxpayers, we believe it is imperative that our people be able to trust our government and our commander in chief when you make representations and statements regarding our nation engaging in war. As a result, we would ask that you publicly respond to these questions as promptly as possible. CLIP Several people recommended this! including "Kathleen Roberts" email@example.com> who wrote: "Senator John Conyers now has a smoking gun, the Downing Street Memo, which may enable him to call for a formal investigation of Bush's activities. He has asked for 100,000 signatures to the letter posted on his site. I think it's the first real step towards challenging this administration's lies, and really could lead to impeachment hearings. Please sign the letter by going to the link below and forward the link to others who are likely to want to do the same."
FEMA - The Secret Government http://www.freedomsite.net/FEMA%20-%20The%20Secret%20Government.htm
Some people have referred to it as the "secret government" of the United States. It is not an elected body, it does not involve itself in public disclosures, and it even has a quasi-secret budget in the billions of dollars. This government organization has more power than the President of the United States or the Congress, it has the power to suspend laws, move entire populations, arrest and detain citizens without a warrant and hold them without trial, it can seize property, food supplies, transportation systems, and can suspend the Constitution. (...) The crux of the problem is that FEMA has the power to turn the United States into a police state in time of a real crisis or a manufactured crisis. Lt. Col. North virtually established the apparatus for dictatorship. (...) The scenarios established to trigger FEMA into action are generally found in the society today, economic collapse, civil unrest, drug problems, terrorist attacks, and protests against American intervention in a foreign country. All these premises exist, it could only be a matter of time in which one of these triggers the entire emergency necessary to bring FEMA into action, and then it may be too late, because under the FEMA plan, there is no contingency by which Constitutional power is restored. -- Recommended by Phyllis Montague firstname.lastname@example.org> who wrote: "I feel it is so important for people to get an understanding of what is happening here at home with out their awareness. Galloway Wary Of Staged Terror Attack As Pretext For Iran Invasion (June 1 2005)
George Galloway made worldwide headlines on May 17th when he appeared in front of a Senate committee on investigations, after its members accused him of profiteering from Saddam Hussein's regime by receiving vouchers for oil, despite the fact that such allegations against Galloway had already been proven to be based on forged documents.Galloway did what no American on Capitol Hill could, he told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Galloway turned the tables and put the entire US establishment on trial for arming Saddam, imposing genocidal sanctions which killed a million Iraqis, and then the two illegal wars which killed and maimed hundreds of thousands more. Galloway appeared as a guest on The Alex Jones Show to discuss his Senate appearance and the subsequent fallout it generated. At the end of the show Alex Jones asked Galloway if he thought an invasion of Iran was on the horizon. Galloway was confident that massively opposed public opinion would stop an attack from taking place, unless a staged terror attack carried out by the military industrial complex and blamed on Iran was carried out. JONES: "What do we do if the military-industrial complex carries out a terror attack to blame it on them?" GALLOWAY: "Well that's another very real danger. There's no way we can legislate for that but we we must be on guard. We need a vigilant citizenry." JONES: "Unbelievable." GALLOWAY: "We need a vigilant citizenry that are wise to all the tricks that these monkeys are up to." Hear the clip at <http://prisonplanet.com/audio/galloway_clip.mp3
Cheney offended by Amnesty criticism (May 30, 2005)
Rights group accuses U.S. of violations at Guantanamo Bay WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday he was offended by Amnesty International's condemnation of the United States for what it called "serious human rights violations" at Guantanamo Bay. "For Amnesty International to suggest that somehow the United States is a violator of human rights, I frankly just don't take them seriously," he said in an interview that was to air Monday night on CNN's "Larry King Live." Amnesty International was scathing last week in its criticism of the way the United States has run the detention center at its naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. "We have documented that the U.S. government is a leading purveyor and practitioner of the odious human rights violation," William Schulz, executive director of Amnesty International USA, said Wednesday. On its Web site, the London, England-based human rights group says: "As evidence of torture and widespread cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment mounts, it is more urgent than ever that the U.S. government bring the Guantanamo Bay detention camp and any other facilities it is operating outside the USA into full compliance with international law and standards. The only alternative is to close them down." The vice president said the United States has freed millions of people from oppression. ................ !!! ..............
"Things Are Getting Worse by the Day" By Dahr Jamail (May 30, 2005)
The mayhem continues in Iraq, with today at least 40 people dead, including five US soldiers in Diyala province as the meltdown of the failed US-led occupation continues. Two suicide bombers detonated themselves after walking into a crowd of police officers in Hilla, south of Baghdad. The policemen were demonstrating outside the mayors office to protest a government decision to disband their Special Forces unit.In yet another horrible PR move (or attempt to raise sectarian tensions?) by the US military the head of Iraqs largest Sunni political party, Mohsen Abdul Hamid was detained from his home early this morning in western Baghdad. Of course his head was promptly bagged and his hands tied before he was taken away to be interrogated. His three sons were also detained with him. Stun bombs and bullets were said to be used during the raid, according to his wife. It just so happens that his party, the Islamic Party, opposes the new US-backed security operation now engulfing Baghdad because they believe the security forces will disregard the rights of innocent Iraqis. Later today he was released and the military admitted it made a mistake. (...) At least 740 Iraqis have been killed since the new government took power in late April, and with the ongoing operations sparking more attacks each day, it doesnt look like there is an end in sight. Keep in mind, the vast majority of the Iraqi security forces are either Shia or Kurdish battling against a primarily Sunni resistance (for now). It can easily be argued that we are witnessing a US-backed Iraqi government who is deliberating using its power to wage a civil war. CLIP
Media Disinformation and the Nature of the Iraqi Resistance (26 May 2005)
The flurry of news, hypotheses, and disinformation about the nature of the Iraqi Resistance against the Occupation continues unabated. How much of this is managed propaganda against the Iraqi Resistance? According to both the Western mainstream media and the alternative media, the U.S. is "building democracy" and fighting "terrorism" in Iraq. The distortions of reality and lack of oppositional media leave people in the West, Americans in particular, ill informed. The Western media diligently diverts public attention from the illegal Occupation of Iraq and the responsibility of the U.S./Western governments for the horrendous crimes committed against the people of Iraq. Western journalists and pundits are the main agents of this distorted propaganda. The aims are to portray the Iraqi Resistance as violent "religious fanatics" isolated from the rest of the population and to advocate for ongoing occupation. Time and again, the public have shown to be less tolerant to the old cliché of "religious fanatics". By contrast, people around the world have a record of supporting national resistance movements. In other word, portraying the Iraqi national Resistance movement as a collection of "religious fanatics" and "foreign" fighters "with nothing to lose" is the Occupation's way of discrediting the Iraqi Resistance and denying the Iraqi people their legitimate right to fight for freedom and national sovereignty. Irony Overflowing (May 2)
I often complain about the excess of irony in our national life, but this week, if you're not begoshed by the irony surplus, you haven't been paying attention. If we could just figure out a way to get energy out of the stuff, we'd be set for life.Liberals for the filibuster; conservatives against it -- hilarious. Pentagon loses track of more than $1 trillion, and the Army can't find 56 airplanes, 32 tanks and 36 Javelin missile command launch-units. Not to mention Osama bin Laden. And more:Right-wing Republicans fight to make the world safe from "judicial activists" by appointing Priscilla Owen -- the biggest, baddest, worstest judicial activist Texas ever produced -- to the federal bench. (...) Galloway, a member of the British Parliament, simply danced rings around the clumsy Sen. Norm Coleman of Minnesota, and the others. The hearing bore an uncanny resemblance to the scene in Leonardo DiCaprio's popular bio-pic about Howard Hughes, The Aviator, in which the deteriorating Hughes triumphs over a low-rent, witch-hunt committee. In case you missed the flap, Galloway is a way-left Brit M.P. who actually did defend Saddam Hussein before the war, which may or may not have been based on his position that the pre-war boycott of Iraq did nothing to topple Hussein, but was a humanitarian nightmare for Iraqis. In fact, the boycott, as has long been documented, did kill tens of thousands of Iraqis, in particular babies and small children. An insane policy. CLIP
The Real Star Wars: Bush Revives Missile Defense Plan (30 May 2005)
The saga of America's ambition to put weapons in space has been as protracted as George Lucas's film franchise. Now George Bush has a new plan - at a stellar cost of $58bn. Within the next few weeks, however, George Bush, a champion of missile defence from the start of his presidency, is expected to sign a national security directive moving the US a big step closer to putting weapons in space. Not so, insists the Air Force Space Command, the prime mover behind the initiative. The goal, a spokeswoman insists, is "free access in space, not weapons in space". But the evidence suggests otherwise. CLIP

Bilderberg 2005: The world in the palm of their hands (May 24, 2005)
The annual secret meeting of the Bilderberg group determines many of the headlines and news developments you will read about in the coming months. But the Establishment media completely black it out. With the exception of half-a-dozen high-ranking members of the press who are sworn to secrecy, few have ever heard of the exclusive and secretive group called The Bilderbergers. Mainstream news organizations boastful about their no-holds barred investigative exploits, have been strangely reluctant to lift the blackout curtain hiding a major event: the Bilderberg group's secret annual meeting for the world's most powerful financiers, industrialists, and political figures. Two thousand-five was a bad year for Bilderberg and its future looks gloomy. Herculean efforts to keep their meetings secret in Rottach-Egern failed miserably. Bilderberg's grief is the free world's gloryand hope for further restraining the power grabbers in the dawn of a new millennium. One certainty is that although the Bilderberg Group has lost some of its past luster, it is meeting under its usual secrecy that makes freemasonry look like a playgroup. Staff at the hotel are photographed and put through special clearance. From porters to senior managers, the employees are warned (under the threat of never working in the country again) about the consequences of revealing any details of the guests to the press. International and national media are said to be welcome only when an oath of silence has been taken, news editors are held responsible if any of their journalists 'inadvertently' report on what takes place. While Clinton, Blair, Chirac, Berlusconi and Company attended the G8 summits of the world's foremost democratically elected leaders, they were accompanied by the massed ranks of the world media. In stark contrast, the comings and goings at Bilderberg take place under cover of a virtual publicity blackout. The discussions they will engage in this year, from deciding how the world should deal with European-American relations, the Middle East powder keg, the Iraq war, the global economy and how to stave off war in Iran, and the consensus they reach, will influence the course of Western civilization and the future of the entire planet. This meeting takes place behind closed doors in total secrecy, protected by a phalanx of armed guards. CLIP
Intelligence Sources Say Bilderberg Targeting Patriots (May 28) http://propagandamatrix.com/articles/may2005/280505targetingpatriots.htm
Daniel Estulin is award-winning investigative journalist who has been researching the Bilderbergers for over 13 years. Estulin was one of only two journalists in the world who witnessed and reported (from beyond the heavily guarded perimeter) the super secret meeting at the Dorint Sofitel Seehotel in Rottach-Egern, Munich, Bavaria, Germany, on May 58, 2005. Estulin appeared on the Alex Jones Show to discuss Bilderberg's agenda for the coming year and their discussions on Iran and population control. The attack on Iran seems to have been delayed but the goal of population reduction is back on the table for the Globalists, according to insiders who leaked information to Estulin. Estulin (pictured) has built up a reliable network of CIA, MI5 and Mossad insiders who are just as horrified as the rest of us about what the elite have in store for us. Each year they are able to leak him information discussed both in the Bilderberg conference rooms and more informal chats during coffee and cocktail breaks. This year Estulin dropped a bombshell that shocked even us. According to Estulin's sources, Bilderberg are very angry at the alternative truth movement and its opposition and exposure of Bilderberg's agenda. More specifically, the Christian Patriot movement in America was highlighted as a nuisance that will have to be dealt with. Bilderberg members postulated the necessity of wiping out American patriots who oppose the New World Order. CLIP
Stripping Rumsfeld and Bush of Impunity
When Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee last year, he was asked whether he "ordered or approved the use of sleep deprivation, intimidation by guard dogs, excessive noise, and inducing fear as an interrogation method for a prisoner in Abu Ghraib prison." Sanchez, who was head of the Pentagons Combined Joint Task Force-7 in Iraq, swore the answer was no. Under oath, he told the Senators he "never approved any of those measures to be used." But a document the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) obtained from the Pentagon flat out contradicts Sanchezs testimony. Its a memorandum entitled "CJTF-7 Interrogation and Counter-Resistance Policy," dated September 14, 2003. In it, Sanchez approved several methods designed for "significantly increasing the fear level in a detainee." These included "sleep management"; "yelling, loud music, and light control: used to create fear, disorient detainee, and prolong capture shock"; and "presence of military working dogs: exploits Arab fear of dogs." On March 30, the ACLU wrote a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, urging him "to open an investigation into whether General Ricardo A. Sanchez committed perjury in his sworn testimony." (...) The Bush Administrations legal troubles dont end with Sanchez or Gonzales. They go right to the top: to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and President Bush himself. Both Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International USA say there is "prima facie" evidence against Rumsfeld for war crimes and torture. And Amnesty International USA says there is also "prima facie" evidence against Bush for war crimes and torture. (According to Random House Websters Unabridged Dictionary, "prima facie evidence" is "evidence sufficient to establish a fact or to raise a presumption of fact unless rebutted.") Amnesty International USA has even taken the extraordinary step of calling on officials in other countries to apprehend Bush and Rumsfeld and other high-ranking members of the Administration who have played a part in the torture scandal. Foreign governments should "uphold their obligations under international law by investigating U.S. officials implicated in the development or implementation of interrogation techniques that constitute torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment," the group said in a May 25 statement. William Schulz, executive director of Amnesty International USA, added, "If the United States permits the architects of torture policy to get off scot-free, then other nations will be compelled" to take action. The Geneva Conventions and the torture treaty "place a legally binding obligation on states that have ratified them to exercise universal jurisdiction over persons accused of grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions," Amnesty International USA said. "If anyone suspected of involvement in the U.S. torture scandal visits or transits through foreign territories, governments could take legal steps to ensure that such individuals are investigated and charged with applicable crimes." these two leading human rights organizations make such bold claims about the President and the Secretary of Defense, we need to take the question of executive criminality seriously. CLIP
The Voice of the White House (May 27, 2005)
(...) From two sources, neither of whom know each other and both of whom are well-placed in the system, I have been receiving information that indicates that a coup d'etat against the Bush administration is apparently being seriously contemplated in certain circles. The first of these is the higher commands of the U.S. military which is disgusted with Bush and his ruination, as they see it, of the discipline and legitimate tasks of the military and the other is a loose confederation of very high level American businessmen who see Bush as a complete and fatal disaster to American business, most especially in the areas of foreign trade. Secret Weapons of Mass Destruction in the USA? Questions We Must Ask http://www.mayanprophecy.net
Imagine a weapon that utilizes ball lightening (a scientific phenomenon similar to lightening because it moves just as quickly, but it's ethereal, meaning it passes through solids and liquids effortlessly, such as jet fuselage, bedrock or the molten core of the earth), and this ball lightening moves faster than light because it is powered by pre-existing etheric and magnetic lines of energy around and inside the earth. This type of lightening is man-made, and it defies all elements because it is created by an electromagnetic magnifying energy transmitter. A transmitter that builds up resonance without any wires or energy loss because it uses sound waves, vibrational frequency or charged particles (standing waves known as Tesla Waves) that incinerate and obliterate its victim. This wireless weapon of destruction is capable of aiming at specific coordinates from long distances even on the other side of the globe. Not only is this weapon capable of creating earthquakes, it is also powerful enough to pulverize cement and steel. Think of this weapon as a type of lightening that increases while coursing through the earth because it is powered by the etheric fields, electromagnetic currents and even the molten core in the center of the earth. Since this weapon is electric and magnetic, it gridlocks all communications as it surfaces and enters the atmosphere to destroy its target.Although it sounds like science fiction, the man who invented light as we know it today, Nicola Tesla, designed a weapon such as this, and he warned what would happen if his designs were built to course through the entire globe. Even with a small budget, Tesla's transmitters rocked the "buildings down the street" because many people witnessed and documented his "man-made" earthquakes in the late 1800s.Now fast forward to today, knowing that Tesla's discovery was made decades ago. Cell Phone Dangers Are Real (May 1, 2005) http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2001/4/30/121604.shtml
You do risk cancer from gabbing away on your cell phone despite media reports and reassuring government statements that say there is no demonstrated danger in using the omnipresent devices. So says Dr. George Carlo, an epidemiologist who headed a research program funded by the cellular phone industry, and co-author with journalist Martin Schram of "Cell Phones: Invisible Hazards in the Wireless Age." (...) Overall, the studies failed to refute the alarming findings of lab experiments that appear to link cell phones to cancer by showing that human blood cells exposed to cell phone radiation suffered genetic damage, damage cancer experts consider to be a diagnostic marker of ''high risk'' for developing tumors. "Will people who begin using cell phones as children or teens be high risks for developing brain cancer in their 40s or 50s?" Carlo asks, saying that no studies have answered that question and it will take as long as 20 years before long-term epidemiological studies can either give us truly comforting assurance or flag real danger.Schram and Carlo recommend that until the final results are in, cell phone users should take such simple precautions as using a headset in such a way as to keep the radiation-emitting antenna away from their heads.
Some Fear Catastrophe From Amazon Highway (May 28)
(...) In a controversial plan, Brazil's government is preparing to let private companies embark on a $417 million paving project to turn BR163 into a modern two-lane toll highway stretching 1,100 miles, nearly the distance between Philadelphia and Miami. That would link Brazil's most important soy-growing region with a deep-water Amazon River port.Truck traffic will skyrocket as the country opens up a new export corridor for soybeans, Brazil's most important crop. Trips that now take weeks during the half-year rainy season will be cut to hours. (...) Environmentalists and Indian tribal leaders warn the pavement will eliminate even more rain forest, and pollute the region with crime, drugs and prostitution.Unless growth is under strict federal control, they say, the road could also bring violent land conflicts. In Para, the Brazilian state where most of the paving will take place, those are often solved by gunslinging "pistoleiros." Critics point to the February slaying of American nun Dorothy Stang, who spent 23 years protecting the rain forest and peasants. The killing was blamed on a rancher coveting land Stang was trying to protect. The government responded with an environmental crackdown, freezing development in 32,000 square miles along BR163. But environmentalists believe the ban will be lifted within a year. "Economics are determining the fate of the Amazon," said Paulo Adario, who heads Greenpeace's Amazon project. "The paving is inevitable, and at the end of the day, the discussion is centering on what we are willing to lose." CLIP
Scratched Cat Fever (Grist summary - http://lists.grist.org/lists/arc/weekly-grist)
Tigers in dangerous decline in India - The accelerating disappearance of endangered Bengal tigers from India's 28 tiger reserves has Indian officials and charismatic-megafauna enthusiasts the world over in a tizzy. Poaching of the country's national animal has increased in recent years, as body parts ranging from pelts to, um, members have become valuable commodities in the Chinese medicinal trade. Though India's resources for combating the problem are somewhat slim -- park guards' low wages encourage bribes, and they are armed only with long, wooden sticks (!) -- the country, a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, could face punitive measures if the situation does not improve. In response to what has been called an "international scandal," government officials are beefing up security at the parks, conducting a census of remaining tigers, drawing up a new conservation policy, and establishing an old-age home for tigers no longer able to hunt. - Details at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4573387.stm
Bird flu death toll five times what had been reported, China (28 May 2005)
An official from China's agricultural department said the death toll from bird flu in the West of China is five times greater than official reports had stated. The number of migratory birds killed was much larger than people had thought, he said. He added that the reports refer only to the death of birds and that no humans have died. Rumours are rife among experts and throughout the internet that there has been a massive cover-up. People are saying nobody really knows how bad the situation really is/was. Rumours abound that many humans have perished. Officials now say more than 1,000 migratory birds have died after being infected with the H5N1 strain of bird flu. The H5N1 is the most lethal one. Official reports had talked about just 178 birds, all of them geese, perishing in Qinghai Lake - now, they say the real number is over 500. China has not reported one human death from bird flu - even though nearby countries such as Vietnam have had 38 deaths. In total, the number of human deaths from bird flu in South East Asia has totalled 54. Health experts say that in order to tackle a possible pandemic which could spread to humans and become a human-to-human transmissible disease, we need accurate, reliable information. If authorities are not able to provide reliable figures it is virtually impossible to know what to do and when and where to do it. A pandemic could kill millions and millions of people throughout the globe.
New findings about "junk DNA" may bring some surprises (QUITE AMAZING!)
A group of researchers working at the Human Genome Project will be announcing soon that they made an astonishing scientific discovery: They believe so-called non-coding sequences (97%) in human DNA is no less than genetic code of an unknown extraterrestrial life form. The non-coding sequences are common to all living organisms on Earth, from molds to fish to humans. In human DNA, they constitute larger part of the total genome, says Prof. Sam Chang, the group leader. Non-coding sequences, also known as "junk DNA", were discovered years ago, and their function remains mystery. Unlike normal genes, which carry the information that intracellular machinery uses to synthesize proteins, enzymes and other chemicals produced by our bodies, non-coding sequences are never used for any purpose. They are never expressed, meaning that the information they carry is never read, no substance is synthesized and they have no function at all. We exist on only 3% of our DNA. The junk genes merely enjoy the ride with hard working active genes, passed from generation to generation. What are they? How come these idle genes are in our genome? Those were the question many scientists posed and failed to answer - until the breakthrough discovery by Prof. Sam Chang and his group.Trying to understand the origins and meaning of junk DNA Prof. Chang realized that he first needs a definition of "junk". Is junk DNA really junk, (useless and meaningless) or it contains some information not claimed by the rest of DNA for whatever reason? He once mentioned the question to an acquaintance, Dr. Lipshutz, a young theoretical physicist turned Wall Street derivative securities specialist. "Easy," replied Lipshutz. "We'll run your sequence through the software I use to analyze market data, and it will show if your sequences are total garbage, "white noise", or there is a message in there." This new breed of analysts with strong background in math, physics and statistics are getting more and more popular with Wall Street firms. They sift through gigabytes of market statistics, trying to uncover useful correlation between the various market indexes, and individual stocks. (...) "However, from the programmer's point of view, there is also positive outlook in it. What we see in our DNA is a program consisting of two versions, a big code and basic code. First fact is, the complete program was positively not written on Earth; that is now a verified fact. The second fact is, that genes by themselves are not enough to explain evolution; there must be something more in the game. What it is or where it is, we don't kow. The third fact is, no creator of a new work, be it a composer, engineer or programmer, from Mars or Microsoft, will ever leave his work without the option for improvement or upgrade. Ingenious here is, that the upgrade is already enclosed - the "junk DNA" is nothing more than hidden and dormant upgrade of our basic code! We know for some time that certain cosmic rays have power to modify DNA. With this in mind, plausible solution is available. The extraterrestrial programmers may use just one flash of the right energy from somewhere in the Universe to instruct the basic code to remove all the /* */ symbols, fuse itself with the big code ("junk DNA") and jumpstart working of our whole DNA. That would change us forever, some of us within months, some of us within generations. The change would be not too much physical, (except no more cancers, diseases and short life), but it will catapult us intellectually. Suddenly, we will be in time comparable to coexistence of Neanderthals with Cromagnons. The old will be replaced giving birth to a new cycle. The complete program is elegant, very clever self-organizing, auto-executing, auto-developing and auto-correcting software for a highly advanced biological computer with build-in connection to the ageless energy and wisdom of the Universe. Software wise, within us is either short and diseased life, or potential for a super-intelligent super-being with a long and healthy life. This triggers puzzling questions - was the reduction to the basic code done by sloppy programmers in a rush (as it appears to us), or was the disabling of the big code purposeful act which can be cancelled by a "remote control" whenever desired?"Soon or later, we have to come to grips with the unbelievable notion that every life on Earth carries genetic code for his extraterrestrial cousin and that evolution is not what we think it is. This discovery may well shake the very roots of humanity - our beliefs in our concept of God and in our own power over our destiny. With the right paradigm, we may discover one day that all forms of life and the whole Universe is just one huge intellectual exercise in thoughts expressed mathematically, by Design, by Creator. - Recommended by Kalama Hawkrider email@example.com>

Subject: The light at the Farmer's Market
Date: Sat, 28 May 2005
On my way to the farmer's market yesterday, I decided to start doing a three day round of that exercise I wrote to you about the other day... to increased positivity. When I got to the market, it was like walking into a little piece of heaven...miles of smiles between the booths of organic produce, flowers and veggie starts. The energy there was so very blissful... like walking into a timeless celebration of life. As I was leaving, I noticed a sticker on a car window that said: "I pledge allegiance to Mother Earth". How well that resonated! That thought kept popping into my mind for the rest of the day, so I added some to it before I went to sleep last night. Here's my new pledge of allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to Mother Earth,
Our beautiful planet and our home,
And to her environment, which sustains us all-
One PeopleOne PlanetAll Life United
With Liberty and Loving Care for All.
I invite you to join me in this pledge, if it rings true to you.

Again Thank You for a wonderful meditation focus, especially touching my beloved continent...
I just wanted you to know that your work is appreciated - and better - some of it I have printed over the past five years...and kept!!!!
Found myself using some of your own guidelines on meditation and relaxation techniques (in french) on my french version of The Inner Version (La Voix Interieure)...gave you all the credit and described you as follows:
"un ami Canadien qui gère un empire de bonne volonté sur l'internet"
you may want to listen to the whole program, to be broadcast in about two weeks at: http://www.channelafrica.org
You may also want to share the following info with the network on interviews coming up on The Inner Voice:
* Exiled President/father Aristide of Haiti - to whom I will be asking: can we reconcile religion and political power?
* Judge Edwin Cameron - one of South Africa's High Court's most prominent Judges, he is white, gay, living with Aids and tangible proof of how truly tolerant the South African society has become. His book Witness to Aids is truly worth reading for those who want to learn about the epidemic and how someone in such a high profile copes and lives with the disease. Highly recommended - I loved the book and Judge Cameron writes openly with love and compassion.
All my love - Keep up your labour of love - your sister in the light
Note From Jean: Here is what I found about her most excellent radio show The Inner Voice at http://www.channelafrica.org/portal/site/menuitem.0fe584736d6d305f3efdc4645401aeb9/
The Inner Voice is a weekly inspirational program, presented and produced by healer and author Lou Bognon. The objective of the program is to help listeners cope with everyday realities and challenges facing us and our continent, by exploring spiritual truths and principles. The INNER VOICE is a new way of talking about, thinking of, seeing and experiencing, our continent, our lives and our world. The content is about understanding, healing and changing, ourselves first in the knowledge that we can create new realities in and around ourselves, by developing a greater understanding of basic spiritual concepts and laws governing our world, as well as taking what are often small but necessary steps towards change. At the Inner Voice the key words are sharing greater love, greater compassion, greater understanding and wisdom - The Inner Voice is about Ubuntu (Humanity) and the spiritual principles of a real African Renaissance. The Inner Voice taps into the need for greater understanding, greater sharing and greater communication, thus bringing to the fore issues such as peace, tolerance, poverty, Aids, crime and violence of all types, conflict and division, cultural diversity, sharing of our resources. Please check program scheduling for details.
In another email she wrote: "The Inner Voice/La Voix Interieure, my spiritual/inspirational radio programs are not beamed only to the whole of Africa, but also to the USA, Canada, etc - Channel Africa as a whole gets to be broadcast by short wave, satellite and Internet radio and is also part of the World Radio Network... in fact a huge audience - perhaps far too big to even quantify... That is why I have to give credit where is it is due dear Brother. Your work is special and sacred and your compilations a continuing source of inspiration - plus it really keeps us informed at all levels. I also now pass on a lot of your material to other colleagues at Channel Africa, so that they may use whenever possible on their various programs."

Subject: Regarding the illusion
"To finish we would like to suggest that the focus of any directed healing be based on the prayerful and loving intention to facilitate an end to the illusion behind the suffering that holds people in conflict with each other and the Earth and in opposition to their spiritual nature, and that we are never so arrogant or self-denying to leave ourselves out of this healing too."
What if the whole point of our experience on Earth IS the illusion? As in learning through it. Perhaps that's why those who reach a certain spiritual level don't much come down any more. The illusion holds no potential for them. I'm not sure the "realization" that it's all an illusion would be of any real help in the learning of the necessary things. Could it be that by investing in the illusion, we are forced/enabled to make the choices that mean real spiritual progress? If we don't perceive adversity, for example, would the choice to be kind, or long-suffering, or patient mean as much?

Subject: How can the spiritual dimensions of science and consciousness help the UN
If you remember some time back I sent out information on a conference in New York entitled "How Can the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Help the UN and Humanity Achieve Better Standards of Life in Larger Freedom?"
A dear friend of mine, Sharon Shane attended the conference and below are her insights into her experience of the conference, which are very interesting. It is encouraging to hear how the spiritual aspect is finding its way into the UN in this way and there is a meditation room at the UN and that there was such an openness.

THE UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE
Today, Thursday, May 26th, I attended and participated in a conference at the United Nations in New York City entitled, "How Can the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Help the UN and Humanity Achieve Better Standards of Life in Larger Freedom?"
Needless to say, this topic is so broad that it could not be covered in a 3 hour conference. The guest keynote speakers were Ambassador Anwarul Chowdhury, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative and Dr. Masaru Emoto, Research Scientist and Author of "The Hidden Messages in Water" featured in the movie, "What the Bleep?"
The author of the book "The Book of Knowledge: The Keys of Enoch", J. J. Hurtak, was a surprise guest in the audience and although his participation was unscheduled, he proceeded to give a lengthy slide presentation, which seemed to dismay the moderator, who interrupted him twice to keep him directed towards questions for the guest speakers. Due to this unscheduled presentation, it cut into the format of the group discussion participation.
A month ago the Masters informed me that it was important for me to attend this conference because I would have an opportunity to speak and address the entire room with a message, while also anchoring the Light in the space of the United Nations. . . . so I followed their guidance. As I entered the conference room, there was a podium for the scheduled speakers and rows of semi-circular desks and chairs with a microphone at each of our stations. I was among about 100 people in the audience listening to the esteemed speakers. There are many conference rooms in the United Nations. The conference room we were in was built and intended as the "meditation room" of the United Nations to focus on the spiritual aspect. As I sat in the room awaiting the commencement of the program, I felt my crown chakra tingling and open up so widely to anchor a wide beam of pure Light streaming into my body and into my Heart Chakra, which then proceeded to emanate out into the entire United Nations building beyond the conference room.
The program opened with a welcome and a moment of silence followed by a "sound tuning" by flute played beautifully by Dr. Eileen Ain, DSW.
It is not possible to cover all of the speech topic, but here I quote Secretary Chowdhury during his speech, "Fear of the unknown creates the divisions in the world. "(I jotted down my response to his statement in my notes, "fear of the unknown must be transmuted into "adventure" into the unknown. )He went on to say that we need to expose children to diversity so they could learn collaboration and cooperation. With a disheartening glimpse into the reality that 60 years ago the United Nations charter was written to say, "We the peoples and our representative governments. . . " but instead of "we the peoples" as individuals with an open and compassionate heart, the United Nations has unfortunately been more focussed on the governments and politics rather than the people. . . and that the governments are just the well-oiled machines that need the compassion of the individuals working there. He said, "We need to revisit the Charter and the United Nations must become a 'House of Peace and Non-Violence' and we need to reach the goals of the U. N. millenium charter with a change of our hearts.
Dr. Masaru Emoto gave a presentation with audio and video. The stop-motion animation of the evolving pictures of the water crystals were quite beautiful to witness. Here is the scientific proof of the effect consciousness has upon form. The prophecies of years ago that science would meet spirituality are unfolding in all corners of our planet now. I was quite grateful to Dr. Emoto's demonstration of the physical scientific picture evidence of that which I have known and understood to be the truth of creation since I was about 5 years old and would watch the atomic energy particles in the space in between. What his experiments have proven is that the harmonic vibration of the actual words of "Love" and "Thank You" in any language brings forth the 6 sided sacred geometric in crystallized form. Denigrating words do not create this beauty, but the water particles are scattered in disarray. His goal and dream is to bring this information to children in every country to teach them of the effect their consciousness has upon the water, and thus upon all form.
During the last 30 minutes, the discussion time was opened up to the audience. Out of the 100 participants, there was only opportunity for about 6 people in the audience to speak. Sure enough, during this group discussion format, I was one of them and was called on and given the floor. I opened my microphone to address the room. In my usual highly empathic form, my eyes teared up and my Heart was full of passion as I spoke, but even heightened more so than I would have foreseen myself in my usual expression. I began by thanking Dr. Emoto for honoring the Divine Feminine, as he had said in his speech, "I believe it has been an era of man and now it is time to change it to an era of woman. " This opened the space for me to bring forth the voice of the Divine Feminine in this conference. I don't remember exact word for word, but this is for the most part what I stated,
"Light is intelligent self-awareness. Intelligence can build a bomb, but wisdom would never think to do so. So where is the wisdom in our intelligence, and how do we infuse wisdom into our actions?"I briefly spoke about my visit with the Amazon Shuar tribe and how I learned that the men in their wisdom look to the women for their intuition for the men know that they will just continue to hunt and cut down and deplete everything. They know that the women will tell them when to stop and that enough is enough. I asked, "When acquiring 5 cars in a household driveway, when is it enough?"I posed the question, "When will there be a Council of Wisdom Elders at the United Nations to guide decisions through intuition and when will their wisdom be heeded so that harmony can be restored to the world as the parts that have too much gives way to bringing more balance to the parts of the world that are in need. I stated, "This intuition does not necessarily have to come from just women for there are plenty of men who are awakened to the Soul's intuitive understandings. And these are the seeds of wisdom I wish to plant here today in this United Nations. "
After I passionately spoke these words, a young woman sitting next to me turned and thanked me profusely for speaking and she said, "It opened up the energy in the entire room. "
After the closing of the conference with beautiful flute music and a moment of silence, I was approached by another man who told me what I said resonated with him and also to those sitting around him. I thanked the hosts that moderated for their efforts in bringing forth this conference, and I approached Secretary Chowdhury and showed my gratitude for his most thoughtful speech and told him my heart was warmed to know that there was someone with his sensitivities working so hard in the United Nations on behalf of the poorest island nations.
I left the United Nations with such a feeling of empowerment and the resonance in the room was surely brought forth and lifted by all of the wonderful people who chose to participate. These are the seeds being planted in the soil of consciousness in many parts of our world to blossom and bring forth a return to the Original Garden of harmony. There is much weeding and nurturing of this garden yet to accomplish, but as the visionary, I see the seeds already sprouting in the Light of Consciousness of each and every Human Being.

Give Peace a Chance
May 28, 2005
You would never guess it from the news, but we're living in a peculiarly tranquil world. The new edition of "Peace and Conflict," a biennial global survey being published next week by the University of Maryland, shows that the number and intensity of wars and armed conflicts have fallen once again, continuing a steady 15-year decline that has halved the amount of organized violence around the world.
Those statistics are no solace for mourners in Iraq and Darfur. But so many other people are now living in peace that you don't have be a dreamer like John Lennon to take seriously the question raised by Gregg Easterbrook in this week's New Republic cover story, "The End of War?"
I posed that question nearly a decade ago to my favorite prophet, Julian Simon, the economist who spent his career refuting doomsayers' predictions. He was convinced that three horsemen of the apocalypse - famine, pestilence, death - were in rapid retreat, and he suspected that the fourth was in trouble, too.
"I predict that the incidence of war will decline," he told me in 1996, two years before his death. He based his prediction on the principle that there is less and less to be gained economically from war. As people get richer and smarter, their lives and their knowledge become far more valuable than the land, minerals and natural resources they used to fight over.
The Iraq war is sometimes described, by both foes and supporters, as a pragmatic venture to keep oil flowing, but not even the most ruthless accountant can justify the expense. Even before the war, America's military costs in the Persian Gulf were much greater than the value of all the oil it was getting from the region, and now it's spending at least four times what the oil's worth.
Of course, wars are also fought for noneconomic reasons, but those, too, seem to be diminishing. The end of the cold war left the superpowers' proxy armies without patrons, and the spread of democracy made nations less bellicose. (Democracies almost never fight each other.) Mr. Easterbrook calculates that the amount of military spending per capita has declined by a third worldwide since 1985.
Meanwhile, the number of people fighting has plummeted, even though population has grown enormously. "From what we know about war, we can only conclude that it's a much lesser problem today," said Monty Marshall of George Mason University, a co-author of the "Peace and Conflict" report. "War between countries is much less likely than ever, and civil war is less likely than any time since 1960."
These benign trends may be hard to believe, especially if you've been watching pictures from Iraq or listening to warnings about terrorists acquiring nuclear weapons. One explosion could indeed change everything.
But before you dismiss the optimists as hopeless naifs, you might ask yourself if you're suffering from the malaise described in a book by Mr. Easterbrook called "The Progress Paradox": the better life gets, the worse people feel. The more peaceful and wealthy the world becomes, the more time we all have to watch wars and warnings on television.
The only antidote is to look at long-term trends instead of daily horrors. For a really long-term trend, consider that of 59 skeletons found in a Stone Age graveyard, at least 24 died from violence. Or that a quarter of the male population died fighting in some pre-agricultural societies.
In the 20th century, despite two world wars, humans had less than a 2 percent chance of dying in war or a mass killing, according to John Mueller, a political scientist at Ohio State. Today the risk is lower still - about a quarter the chance of dying in a car accident.
I mention these numbers not to minimize today's tragedies. I plan to be at a parade on Monday honoring the soldiers who have fallen, especially the more than 1,600 in Iraq. But I will also be thinking about the Progress Paradox and the origin of Memorial Day.
It started after the Civil War as Decoration Day, an occasion for widows wearing red poppies to decorate graves and memorials in virtually every town. If a war of that scale happened now, there would be nearly five million graves to tend. Sixteen-hundred is still too many, but if the trend continues, Memorial Day may eventually become a memory itself.

LET'S HOPE THE NEOCONS AND THE PENTAGON WON'T BLOCK THIS LONG OVERDUE BILL
Depleted Uranium Bill Introduced into Congress
The Lone Star Iconoclast
01 June Issue
Washington, DC - Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA), a medical doctor, on May 17 introduced legislation with 21 original co-sponsors in the House of Representatives that calls for medical and scientific studies on the health and environmental impacts from the U.S. Military's use of depleted uranium (DU) munitions in combat zones, including Iraq. The McDermott bill also calls for cleanup and mitigation of sites in the U.S. contaminated by DU.
"The need is urgent and imperative for full, fair and impartial studies," McDermott said. "We may be endangering the health and lives of U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians. All we've gotten so far from the Pentagon are assurances. We need facts backed by science. We don't have that today."
Because of its density, the military uses DU as a protective shield around tanks, and in munitions like armor piercing bullets and tank shells. DU tends to spontaneously ignite upon impact, disintegrating into a micro-fine residue that hangs suspended in the air where it can be inhaled and falls to the ground to leach into the soil.
DU is a by-product of the uranium enrichment process; it is chemically toxic. and DU has low-level radioactivity. About 300 metric tons of DU munitions were fired during the first Gulf War, and about half that amount has been used to date in the Iraq War.
"I've been concerned about DU since veterans of the first Gulf War began to experience unexplained illnesses, commonly called 'Gulf War Syndrome' that remain mysterious," McDermott said.
McDermott added that there are reports from Iraqi doctors and others today of seemingly unexplained serious illnesses including higher rates of cancer and leukemia, and even birth defects.
"We pretended there was no problem with Agent Orange after Vietnam and later the Pentagon recanted, after untold suffering by veterans. I want to know scientifically if DU poses serious dangers to our soldiers and Iraqi civilians."
The Depleted Uranium Munitions Study Act of 2005 has 21 original co-sponsors, all Democrats, including: Reps. Charles Rangel, Pete Stark, Sherrod Brown, Peter DeFazio, Maurice Hinchey, Raul Grijalva, Jan Schakowsky, Robert Wexler, Sam Farr, Tammy Baldwin, Robert Andrews, Bob Filner, Jay Inslee, Jose Serrano, Lynn Woolsey, Earl Blumenauer, Bart Stupak, Mike Honda, Tom Udall, Barney Frank and Ed Markey.

GLOBAL RESEARCH FEATURE ARTICLE
Media Disinformation and the Nature of the Iraqi Resistance
by Ghali Hassan
COMPLETE ARTICLE AT: http://globalresearch.ca/articles/HAS505C.html
Amply documented, the pretexts for the war and the Occupation were based on fake intelligence. Hence, the U.S. and its "allies" are in the process, through media disinformation, of not only legitimizing the Occupation, but also of creating new pretexts for the maintenance of continued US military presence.
The most common pretext in the media reports is that U.S. forces are invited to stay in Iraq to prevent civil war and "maintain stability".
But like the pretext of WMD, there is no evidence to support these U.S. sponsored lies.
There is a U.S-engineered stalemate with no one with a majority to govern effectively. The US installed "government" is powerless, dominated by the same groups of expatriates who lobbied for the invasion and occupation of Iraq. The U.S. is pitting Iraqis against each other and creating a climate of fear.
In this regard, the creation, arming and financing of 'ethnic militias' and death squads by U.S. forces is designed to create ethnic divisions and provoke sectarian violence among Iraqis.
These US sponsored militia groups are:
The Kurdish Peshmerga whose leaders supported the U.S. invasion and Occupation.
The Iranian-trained Badr Brigades,
The armed wing of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) led by Ibrahim Al-Jaaferi of the Dawa party,
The INC militia of Ahmed Chalabi, and the INA militia of Iyad Allawi.
All these groups are involved in terrorist activities against Iraqi civilians. The latter three groups, entered Iraq on the back of U.S. tanks, without valid Iraqi citizenship papers.
The Kurdish militia are the Occupation's most loyal collaborators, receiving arms and money from their masters. Together with the occupying forces, they are responsible for wide scale atrocities in Iraqi towns and villages.
Together with the Peshmerga, Israeli Mossad agents and U.S. forces, the militia groups went on systematic killings of thousands of prominent Iraqi academics, scientists, politicians and religious leaders. They also participated in the atrocity and total destruction of Fallujah, which is depicted as "the storming of Fallujah" in most mainstream media. The city was completely destroyed and still a no go zonefor Iraqis. Other Iraqi towns and cities have not escaped this deliberate destruction.
Their crimes have never been investigated, and no one has been arrested. In fact the Bush Administration is protecting these criminals elements and encouraging their crimes.
Former U.S. administrator in Baghdad, Paul Bremer at the behest of Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, former Deputy of Defence Paul Wolfowitz and Ahmad Chalabi initiated the murderous policy termed "DeBaathification".
The Bush Administration is not only supporting this murderous policy, it introduced the "El Salvador option" of murdering Iraqi dissidents through the appointment John Negroponte as U.S. Ambassador to Iraq.
Chalabi who never lived in Iraq before the invasion, stated that he, "wants to raise Iraq from the ground and build newIraq". What is taking place in Iraq today is a U.S-instigated criminal atrocity.
In addition to the daily intrusive and aggressive house raids being conducted by U.S. soldiers Iraqis also witness daily, routine street patrols.
Journalist Ken Dillian of Knight Ridder wrote:
"All day long, the soldiers pointed their guns at Iraqi civilians, whom they called hajis.... Wary of ambushes, they rammed cars that got in the way of their Humvees. Always on the lookout for car bombs, they stopped, screamed at, shoved to the ground and searched people driving down the road after curfew - or during the day if they looked suspicious".
According to a recent report by the U.S. Project on Defense Alternatives:
"Strong majorities in the Sunni and Shiite community oppose the occupation and significant minorities have registered support for attacks on US troops. What drives these attitudes more than anything else, says the reports author, Carl Conetta, are nationalism, the coercive practices of the occupation, and the collateral effects of military operations".
The report, Vicious Circle: The Dynamics of Occupation and Resistance in Iraq, notes U.S. occupation abuses many Iraqis every day. Iraqis face: "Constant foreign military patrols - about 12,000 per week; Ubiquitous (and too often deadly) vehicle check-points; Raids -- 8,000 total since May 2003; and Citizen round-ups -- 80,000 detained since April 2003". People have only one option left: Resistance.
All resistance movements have been required to respond with armed resistance to defend against military aggression and occupation. Iraq is not different.
Violent resistance arises from violent military occupation.
How the Media depicts the Resistance
It is easy for the U.S. "Left" and "Liberals" to pontificate about non-violent resistance, but what is at issue is the violence committed by the occupying forces. It is a clear case of double standards and distortion of the underlying facts. It also points to a lack of solidarity on the part of those "progressive" groups in the West, who put the onus on the Iraqi people, who are defending their homeland against US imperial aggression.
It should be borne in mind that the U.S. "is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today", and all acts of violence and destruction in Iraq have occurred under the radar of U.S. forces.
The U.S. press and Western media are focusing on civilians casualties with a view to discrediting the Iraqi Resistance.
Regrettably, much of the coverage of the Iraqi Resistance in the Western media has focused on the U.S-created phantom groups of Al-Zarqawi and Al-Qaeda, described as "radical Islamists" or "suicide bombers". Yet despite the media hype, there exists no substantial evidence that these groups are active inside Iraq. Most of the attacks on the occupying forces are carried out by the main Iraqi Resistance groups, and very few of these attacks were on civilians.
Western media are only interested in car bombings that kill civilians. The reality is that occasionally the bombs missed their intended targets, which are the U.S military convoys. Anthony Cordesman of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies notes in this regard that 77 percent of all attacks were against military targets of the U.S. and "Coalition Forces", and only 4.2 per cent of these attacks were led in civilian areas.
According to Iraqi sources, in contrast to Western media accounts, most of the terrorist acts such as kidnappings and hostages attributed by the Western media to Iraqi "insurgents" were carried out by the U.S-created militias.
These reports also point to the role of U.S. and Israeli (Mossad) intelligence, which are involved in a process of distorting the image of the Resistance. There is, in this regard, a growing body of analysis which suggests that the various acts of violence and kidnappings attributed to the Resistance are part of a deliberate and conscious propaganda effort by the occupying forces to distort reality. (See References below)
The strategy is to absolve the U.S. of any crimes and legitimize a prolonged Occupation. "Whenever major terrorist operations happened, it was mostly with US knowledge or involvement. Israel's Mossad planned major terror operations in Iraq, recruiting 2,000 mercenaries before the war and sending them to various Iraqi cities to offer protection and support to the occupation forces", reported the Egyptian, Al-Ahram Weekly.
The hidden agenda is to blame the Iraqi Resistance for these attacks. In other words, the intelligence operation essentially consists in demonizing the Resistance movement, thereby weakening public support for it.
Who is behind the violence in Iraq? U.S. forces and their Israeli agents together with the main militia groups, which now form the core of the new Iraqi army, police and security forces. People have often been found dead after the police and security forces have arrested them. According to Adnan Al-Duliemi, head of the Muslim Endowment, a religious organization that supervises mosques and Muslim shrines, Iraqi Police Forces were "complacent about, even complicit with those killings". He called on the "government to open an investigation into the killings.
The U.S. and its allies have much to gain from a divided Iraq embroiled in sectarian violence. No investigation of these police killings has been conducted and the Occupation forces together with the Western media blamed this orchestrated police violence on the Iraqi Resistance.
These fabricated stories are fed into the Western news chain. They are used to portray the U.S fighting one group of Iraqi (Muslim) fanatics who see the U.S. as "infidel", rather than as a violent occupier.
Western media reports on Iraq are then linked up with 9/11 stories, namely that the U.S. had been attacked on 9/11, and that this war is "justified". This type of reporting, which consists in dehumanizing the Iraqi Resistance, is aimed at a receptive Western audience, which shares the perpetrators frame of reference, to exploit an overarching climate of fear and prejudice, and in the process encourage more racism and Islamophobia.

Nuclear Talks End in Discord
By Maggie Farley
The Los Angeles Times
28 May 2005
The UN conference stumbles over priorities. The US, focused on North Korea and Iran, is criticized over its own weapons stockpile.
United Nations - A monthlong conference aimed at curtailing the spread of nuclear weapons ended in failure Friday after being scuttled by arguments among the United States, Iran and Egypt.
Representatives of more than 150 nations convened at UN headquarters to seek ways to stop more countries from developing nuclear weapons, prevent terrorists from acquiring them, and get a renewed commitment from atomic powers - especially the United States - to significantly reduce their stockpiles.
But strong disagreements over priorities prevented substantive efforts to address the gaps between the world's nuclear haves and have-nots.
The United States tried to keep the focus on alleged nuclear threats from Iran and North Korea instead of its pledges to whittle down its own arsenal. Iran, which contends that its atomic program is strictly for generating electricity, refused to discuss proposals to restrict access to nuclear fuel and objected to being singled out as a "proliferation concern." And Egypt joined Iran in demanding that the conference address Israel's nuclear status and declare the Middle East "a nuclear-free zone." "The conference after a full month ended up where we started, which is a system full of loopholes, ailing and not a road map to fix it," Mohamed ElBaradei, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, told reporters in Vienna as the conference fizzled to a close.
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan launched the conference - a review of the 1970 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty - on May 2, telling delegates that "the consequences of failure are too great to aim for anything less" than new measures to curb the spread of nuclear weapons and reduce the number of existing arms. Under the treaty, atomic powers pledged to dismantle their arsenals and transfer nuclear know-how for generating electricity to other nations, in exchange for vows from those countries not to develop nuclear weapons. Reviews of the treaty are held every five years.
But critics say that not only are the nuclear powers not living up to their side of the deal, they are now seeking to restrict sensitive technology that other countries have a right to. The US and some other nuclear powers, however, contend that increasingly stringent rules on transferring technology are needed to keep weapons out of terrorists' hands. Annan said Friday that conference participants had "missed a vital opportunity" to strengthen the world's collective security and urged leaders to take up the issues again at a September summit at the UN
Conference president Sergio de Queiroz Duarte of Brazil acknowledged that "very little had been accomplished," but said the meeting was not a total failure. The month of discussions forced leaders to debate their differences even if they did not solve them, and paved the way for future talks, he said. Asked why the conference collapsed, he responded, "I think you can write several books on that."
A number of diplomats put much of the blame for the deadlock on the United States.
Washington's position has changed since the last conference in 2000, during the Clinton administration. The US has refused to reaffirm the 13 steps toward nuclear disarmament it agreed to in 2000, or allow discussion of Israel's nuclear status.
Israel is widely thought to have nuclear weapons and, along with declared atomic powers India and Pakistan, is not a signatory to the nonproliferation treaty. North Korea withdrew from the pact in 2003 and has declared that it possesses nuclear weapons, though it has yet to test one. Critics pointed out that during the monthlong conference, the White House asked Congress to fund research on a nuclear "bunker-buster" bomb that could destroy buried weapons stockpiles - a move contrary to the treaty's intentions.
"If governments simply ignore or discard commitments whenever they prove inconvenient, we will never be able to build an edifice of international cooperation and confidence in the security realm," the head of Canada's delegation, Ambassador Paul Meyer, said in a speech to the conference. "We believe this is a treaty worth fighting for, and we are not prepared to stand idly by while its crucial supports are undermined."
US negotiators tried to keep the conference focused on how other countries had breached the nonproliferation treaty, and how to stop that from happening again. In particular, it took aim at North Korea and Iran.
Iran has been chastised by the IAEA for not disclosing nuclear activities going back two decades, but inspectors have not concluded that Tehran is trying to build a nuclear bomb. Iran has denied that it has a weapons program.
Jackie W. Sanders, a lead US negotiator at the conference, said Iran's violations were clear-cut.
"Iran's nuclear weapons program, previously shrouded in secrecy and deceit, has been exposed, as have Iran's violations of its IAEA obligations," she said. Sanders demanded that Iran abandon its efforts to enrich and process uranium and dismantle related equipment and facilities, even though Iran has the right to such technology under the 1970 treaty, which it has signed. Enriched uranium can be used as fuel in power plants, or in nuclear bombs. Iran is negotiating with several European countries to freeze enrichment in exchange for a significant package of economic incentives and other benefits.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice did not join other foreign ministers at the conference, an absence seen by many participants as a sign of the Bush administration's diminishing regard for the treaty.
The conference stalemate played out against a long debate in the Senate over the nomination of John R. Bolton to the post of US ambassador to the United Nations. Bolton, the former undersecretary of State for disarmament, has said he sees little value in multilateral pacts and has been pushing unilateral and bilateral tools over the 1970 treaty to stop proliferation. He was an architect of the Proliferation Security Initiative, in which more than 60 countries agreed to stop and search ships suspected of carrying banned materials.
Sanders lauded the initiative and other US efforts to plug the nonproliferation treaty's gaps, citing the Global Partnership of the Group of 8 industrialized nations to halt the spread of weapons of mass destruction, and a Security Council resolution against nuclear terrorism.
The world's preeminent security threat, Sanders said, was nuclear terrorism, fueled by proliferation networks such as the one led by Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan, which illegally supplied North Korea, Iran and Libya with nuclear technology.
But Iranian Ambassador Javad Zarif said the greatest threat to global security was from the countries that already have nuclear weapons. The US, he told delegates, had violated the treaty by building new nuclear weapons systems, refusing to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, attacking nonnuclear nations and signing a nuclear cooperation agreement with Israel.
"The extremist attitude reflected in these documents and practices seems to indicate that no lessons have been learned from the nightmares of Hiroshima and Nagasaki," Zarif said. "If history is any guide, nuclear arms are in the most dangerous hands."

Holocaust Survivor Leaving US - Sees What's Coming
By Joey Picador
One of our neighbors is moving. I've been in this neighborhood for about six years now, but didn't really know them very well at all - just waves and nods, mostly.
So I heard the moving van pull up this morning. When I got home this evening I happened to spy my neighbor (he's like 85 years old - I don't know exactly, but he's old, talks and moves very slowly) standing on the sidewalk next to the van. I walked over and shook his hand, and we started talking. I asked him where he was moving, and he said, "Back to Germany."
I had been stationed in Germany for two years while in the military, so I lit up, and commented about how beautiful the country was, and inquired if he was going back because he missed it.
"No," he answered me. "I'm going back because I've seen this before." He then commenced to explain that when he was a kid, he watched with his family in fear as Hitler's government committed atrocity after atrocity, and no one was willing to say anything. He said the news refused to question the government, and the ones who did were not in the newspaper business much longer. He said good neighbors, people he had known all his life, turned against his family and other Jews, grabbing on to the hate and superiority "as if they were starved for it" (his words).
He said he was too old to see it happen right in front of his eyes again, and too old to do anything about it, so he was taking his family back to Europe on Thursday where they would be safe from George W. Bush and his neocons. He seemed resolute, but troubled, nonetheless, as if being too young on one end and too old on the other to fight what he saw happening was wearing on him.
I gotta tell you - it was chilling. I let him talk, and the whole time, my gut was churning, like I had mutated butterflies in my stomach. When he was finished, he shook my hand, gripping it really hard, until his knuckles turned white and he was shaking. He looked me in the eyes, hard, and said, "I will pray for your family and your country." He let go of my hand and hobbled away.
I have related this event to you in the hopes it will serve as a cautionary anecdote about the state of our Union, and to illustrate the path we Americans are being led down by a group of fanatics bent on global economic and military dominion. When a man who survived the fruits of fascism decides its time to leave THIS country because he's seeing the same patterns that led to the Holocaust and other Nazi horrors beginning to form here, it is time for us to recognize the underlying evil inherent in the actions of those who claim they work for all Americans, and for all mankind. And it is incumbent upon all Americans, Red and Blue, Republican and Democrat, to stop them.
WHILE MOST OF THE WORLD LOOKS AWAY...
Day 141 of Bush's Silence
By Nicholas D. Kristof
The New York Times
31 May 2005
A reader from Eugene, Ore., wrote in with a complaint about my harping on the third world:
"Why should the U.S. care for the rest of the world?" he asked. "The U.S. should take care of its own. ... It's way past time for liberal twits to stop pushing the U.S. into nonsense or try to make every wrong in the world our responsibility."
And while that reader wasn't George W. Bush, it could have been. Today marks Day 141 of Mr. Bush's silence on the genocide, for he hasn't let the word Darfur slip past his lips publicly since Jan. 10 (even that was a passing reference with no condemnation).
There are several points I could make to argue that it's in our own interest to help Darfur. Turmoil in Darfur is already destabilizing all of Sudan and neighboring Chad as well, both oil-exporting countries. And failed states nurture terrorists like Osama and diseases like polio, while exporting refugees and hijackers.
But there's an even better argument: Magboula, a woman I met at the Kalma Camp here.
She lived with her husband and five children in the countryside, but then as the Arab janjaweed began to slaughter black African tribes like her own, she and her family fled to the safety of a larger town. In December, the Sudanese Army attacked that town, and they ran off to the bush. Two months ago, the janjaweed militia caught up with them.
First the raiders shot her husband dead, she said, her voice choking, and then they whipped her, taunted her with racial insults against black people and mocked her by asking why her husband was not there to help her. Then eight of them gang-raped her.
They may also have mutilated her. At one point she spoke of being slashed with a knife in the shoulder and chest, but when I asked her about it, she kept changing the subject.
"I was very, very ashamed, and very frightened," she said, leaving it at that.
After the attack, Magboula was determined to save her children. So they traipsed together on a journey across the desert to the Kalma Camp, where a small number of foreign aid workers are struggling heroically to assist 110,000 victims of the upheaval. Magboula carried her 6-month-old baby, Abdul Hani, in her arms, and the others, ranging from 2 to 9, stumbled beside her.
Magboula finally arrived at Kalma a few weeks ago. But the Sudanese government is blocking new arrivals like her from getting registered, which means they can't get food and tents. So Magboula is getting no rations and is living with her children under a straw mat on a few sticks.
Then a few days ago, Abdul Hani, Magboula's baby, died.
She and her children are surviving on handouts from other homeless people who arrived earlier and are getting U.N. food. They have almost nothing themselves, but they at least have the compassion to help those who are even needier.
The world might also respond if people could see what is going on, but Sudan has barred most reporters from the area. I'm here because I accompanied Kofi Annan on a visit - bless him for coming! - and then jumped ship while here.
Magboula and the 2.2 million other homeless people from Darfur need food and shelter, and President Bush has been good about providing that. But above all they need the international community to shame Sudan for killing and raping people on the basis of their tribe. Each time Sudan has been subjected to strong moral pressure, it has backed off somewhat - but lately the attention has subsided, and Mr. Bush even killed the Senate-passed Darfur Accountability Act, which would have condemned the genocide.
What killed Magboula's husband and child was, indirectly, the world's moral indifference.
Others can still be saved if there is unrelenting pressure on Sudan to disarm the janjaweed, on intransigent Sudanese rebels to negotiate seriously for peace (instead of lounging about their hotel suites) and on governments like Egypt's and China's to stop being complicit in the Darfur genocide.
When Americans see suffering abroad on their television screens, as they did after the tsunami, they respond. I wish we had the Magboula Channel, showing her daily struggle to forge ahead through humiliation and hunger, struggling above all to keep her remaining children alive. If you multiply Magboula by 2.2 million, you get the reasons why we should care.
Experts: Petroleum May Be Nearing Peak
By MATT CRENSON, AP National Writer
May 29, 2005
Could the petroleum joyride cheap, abundant oil that has sent the global economy whizzing along with the pedal to the metal and the AC blasting for decades be coming to an end? Some observers of the oil industry think so. They predict that this year, maybe next almost certainly by the end of the decade the world's oil production, having grown exuberantly for more than a century, will peak and begin to decline.
And then it really will be all downhill. The price of oil will increase drastically. Major oil-consuming countries will experience crippling inflation, unemployment and economic instability. Princeton University geologist Kenneth S. Deffeyes predicts "a permanent state of oil shortage."
According to these experts, it will take a decade or more before conservation measures and new technologies can bridge the gap between supply and demand, and even then the situation will be touch and go.
None of this will affect vacation plans this summer Americans can expect another season of beach weekends and road trips to Graceland relatively unimpeded by the cost of getting there. Though gas prices are up, they are expected to remain below $2.50 a gallon. Accounting for inflation, that's pretty comparable to what motorists paid for most of the 20th century; it only feels expensive because gasoline was unusually cheap between 1986 and 2003.
And there are many who doubt the doomsday scenario will ever come true. Most oil industry analysts think production will continue growing for at least another 30 years. By then, substitute energy sources will be available to ease the transition into a post-petroleum age.
"This is just silly," said Michael Lynch, president of Strategic Energy and Economic Research in Winchester, Mass. "It's not like industrial civilization is going to come crashing down."
Where you stand on "peak oil," as parties to the debate call it, depends on which forces you consider dominant in controlling the oil markets. People who consider economic forces most important believe that prices are high right now mostly because of increased demand from China and other rapidly growing economies. But eventually, high prices should encourage consumers to use less and producers to pump more.
But Deffeyes and many other geologists counter that when it comes to oil, Mother Nature trumps Adam Smith. The way they see it, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Norway and other major producers are already pumping as fast as they can. The only way to increase production capacity is to discover more oil. Yet with a few exceptions, there just isn't much left out there to be discovered.
"The economists all think that if you show up at the cashier's cage with enough currency, God will put more oil in ground," Deffeyes said.
There will be warning signs before global oil production peaks, the bearers of bad news contend. Prices will rise dramatically and become increasingly volatile. With little or no excess production capacity, minor supply disruptions political instability in Venezuela, hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico or labor unrest in Nigeria, for example will send the oil markets into a tizzy. So will periodic admissions by oil companies and petroleum-rich nations that they have been overestimating their reserves.
Oil producers will grow flush with cash. And because the price of oil ultimately affects the cost of just about everything else in the economy, inflation will rear its ugly head.
Anybody who has been paying close attention to the news lately may feel a bit queasy at this stage. Could $5-a-gallon gas be right around the corner?
"The world has never seen anything like this before and so we just really don't know," said Robert L. Hirsch, an energy analyst at Science Applications International Corp., a Santa Monica, Calif., consulting firm.
Still, he added, "there's a number of really competent professionals that are very pessimistic."

Bilderberg 2005: The world in the palm of their hands (May 24, 2005)
(...) An American Bilderberger expressed concern over the skyrocketing price of oil. One oil industry insider at the meeting remarked that growth is not possible without energy and that, according to all indicators, the world's energy supply is coming to an end much faster than the world leaders have anticipated. According to sources, Bilderbergers estimate the extractable world's oil supply to be at a maximum of 35 years under current economic development and population. However, one of the representatives of an oil cartel remarked that we must factor into the equation, both the population explosion and economic growth and demand for oil in China and India. Under the revised conditions, there is apparently only enough oil to last for 20 years. No oil spells the end of the world's financial system. So much has already been acknowledged by The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times, two periodicals who are regularly present at the annual Bilderberg conference. Conclusion: Expect a severe downturn in the world's economy over the next two years as Bilderbergers try to safeguard the remaining oil supply by taking money out of people's hands. In a recession or, at worst, a depression, the population will be forced to dramatically cut down their spending habits, thus ensuring a longer supply of oil to the world's rich as they try to figure out what to do. During the afternoon cocktail, European Bilderberger noted that there is no plausible alternative to hydrocarbon energy. One American insider stated that currently the world uses between four and six barrels of oil for every new barrel it finds and that the prospects for a short-term breakthrough are slim, at best. Someone asked for an estimate of the world's accessible conventional oil supply. The amount was quoted at approximately one trillion barrels. As a side note of interest, the planet consumes a billion barrels of oil every 11.5 days. Another Bilderberger asked about hydrogen alternative to the oil supply. The US government official agreed, gloomily, that hydrogen salvation to the world's imminent energy crisis is a fantasy. This confirms public statement made in 2003 by HIS, the world's most respected consulting firm cataloguing oil reserves and discoveries, that for the first time since the 1920s there was not a single discovery of an oil field in excess of 500 million barrels. "Monsanto Laws" Sweeping the Nation Take Away Community/County Rights to Ban GMOs
The News & Observer (Raleigh, North Carolina)
May 19, 2005
A growing stake in the biotech crops debate By HOPE SHAND CARRBORO -- Goodness grows in North Carolina? Not if the General Assembly approves bills that would pre-empt local regulations on genetically modified crops and trees.
House Bill 671 and Senate Bill 631 aim to prevent towns, counties or cities from passing any ordinance, regulation or resolution to control any kind of plant or plant pest (including invasive plant species). The bills would usurp local control by making the state Department of Agriculture the only body in North Carolina with the authority to regulate plants.
These bills are not a homegrown initiative, but part of a nationwide biotech industry campaign. Similar bills, containing identical language, have cropped up in at least nine other states as part of a campaign by industry to prevent citizen initiatives like those passed in three California counties last year that prohibited cultivation of genetically modified crops.
Proponents of the seed pre-emption bills, including the Agriculture Department, are championing the interests of corporate "gene giants" such as Monsanto and Syngenta -- not citizens. Whether you're for or against genetically modified seeds, the pre-emption bills represent an anti-democratic measure to take control away from communities. Just as the corporate hog industry won legislation to prohibit local jurisdictions from keeping out supersize hog farms in North Carolina, now the gene giants are trying to muzzle debate by eliminating options for local regulation of genetically modified crops.
The issue has immediate relevance in Eastern North Carolina, where Ventria Bioscience has a permit to grow an open-air, experimental plot of rice engineered with synthetic human genes (to produce artificial human milk proteins) near the state Agriculture Department's Tidewater Research Station in Plymouth, in Washington County. Two earlier attempts by Ventria to grow its genetically modified "pharma rice" -- a crop that yields drugs for use in human and veterinary medicines -- were opposed by farmers, food companies and environmentalists in California and Missouri because of concerns that the genetically altered pharma rice could cross-pollinate with conventional rice, thus contaminating the food supply.
Last month, California-based Ventria Bioscience requested a permit from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to grow up to 70 acres of pharma rice on two additional plots in Eastern North Carolina. If the pre-emption bills pass, communities would have no authority to regulate genetically modified crops. Everyone agrees that unintended gene flow from genetically modified plants is unavoidable. The organic food market is the fastest-growing segment of the farm economy, but organic farmers risk losing organic certification, and markets, if genetically modified DNA contaminates their fields. Local governments should have the ability to protect growers who worry about contamination.
The biotech industry and federal regulators have repeatedly failed to contain and control genetically modified organisms. The science journal Nature revealed in March that Syngenta had inadvertently sold an unapproved strain of genetically modified corn to farmers for four years. During that period, 146,000 tons of the corn were marketed as animal feed and corn flour in the U.S., in Europe and in Asia. Syngenta informed federal authorities about the illegal corn in late 2004, but the public and unsuspecting farmers were in the dark until four months later. To keep out the unlicensed strain, the European Union threatened to boycott U.S. corn imports valued at $347 million. As usual, farmers were left holding the bag. Syngenta was let off with a fine.
This was not the first time genetically modified corn has entered the food supply. In 2000, Starlink corn, approved only for use as animal feed, was found in taco shells, causing a nationwide recall of food products containing yellow corn.
Eliminating options for local authority over plants/seeds is risky business. The farm biotech business is controlled by five multinationals, the world's largest seed and agrochemical companies: Monsanto, Dupont, Syngenta, Bayer and Dow. Monsanto's genetically modified seed technology accounted for about 90 percent of the total worldwide area devoted to such crops last year. Seed industry concentration means fewer choices for farmers and consumers and unacceptable levels of control over the seed supply.
For all these reasons, North Carolina towns and communities must preserve options for local regulation of plants, and for public debate of genetically modified crops and trees. (Hope Shand is research director of the ETC Group http://www.etcgroup.org in Carrboro, North Carolina, a non-profit focusing on socioeconomic impacts of new agricultural technologies.)
MAKE POVERTY HISTORY - Complementary information
The rules of international trade are stacked in favour of the most powerful countries and their businesses. On the one hand these rules allow rich countries to pay their farmers and companies subsidies to export food destroying the livelihoods of poor farmers. On the other, poverty eradication, human rights and environmental protection come a poor second to the goal of eliminating trade barriers.
We need trade justice not free trade. This means the EU single-handedly putting an end to its damaging agricultural export subsidies now; it means ensuring poor countries can feed their people by protecting their own farmers and staple crops; it means ensuring governments can effectively regulate water companies by keeping water out of world trade rules; and it means ensuring trade rules do not undermine core labour standards.
We need to stop the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) forcing poor countries to open their markets to trade with rich countries, which has proved so disastrous over the past 20 years; the EU must drop its demand that former European colonies open their markets and give more rights to big companies; we need to regulate companies making them accountable for their social and environmental impact both here and abroad; and we must ensure that countries are able to regulate foreign investment in a way that best suits their own needs.
DROP THE DEBT
Despite grand statements from world leaders, the debt crisis is far from over. Rich countries have not delivered on the promise they made more than six years ago to cancel unpayable poor country debts. As a result, many countries still have to spend more on debt repayments than on meeting the needs of their people. Rich countries and the institutions they control must act now to cancel all the unpayable debts of the poorest countries. They should not do this by depriving poor countries of new aid, but by digging into their pockets and providing new money.
The task of calculating how much debt should be cancelled must no longer be left to creditors concerned mainly with minimising their own costs. Instead, we need a fair and transparent international process to make sure that human needs take priority over debt repayments.
International institutions like the IMF and World Bank must stop asking poor countries to jump through hoops in order to qualify for debt relief. Poor countries should no longer have to privatise basic services or liberalise economies as a condition for getting the debt relief they so desperately need.
And to avoid another debt crisis hard on the heels of the first, poor countries need to be given more grants, rather than seeing their debt burden piled even higher with yet more loans.
MORE and BETTER AID
Poverty will not be eradicated without an immediate and major increase in international aid. Rich countries have promised to provide the extra money needed to meet internationally agreed poverty reduction targets. This amounts to at least $50 billion per year, according to offical estimates, and must be delivered now. Rich countries have also promised to provide 0.7%of their national income in aid and they must now make good on their commitment by setting a binding timetable to reach this target. However, without far-reaching changes in how aid is delivered, it wont achieve maximum benefits. Two key areas of reform are needed.
First, aid needs to focus better on poor peoples needs. This means more aid being spent on areas such as basic health-care and education. Aid should no longer be tied to goods and services from the donor, so ensuring that more money is spent in the poorest countries. And the World Bank and the IMF must become fully democratic in order for poor peoples concerns to be heard.
Second, aid should support poor countries and communities own plans and paths out of poverty. Aid should therefore no longer be conditional on recipients promising economic change like privatising or deregulating their services, cutting health and education spending, or opening up their markets: these are unfair practices that have never been proven to reduce poverty. And aid needs to be made predictable, so that poor countries can plan effectively and take control of their own budgets in the fight against poverty.

Subject: Beautiful animal stories...
I am writing and researching animal intelligence for an upcoming conference and I come across some amazing stories about non-human animals. Here are just a few that I read today that inspired me and I thought a few of you might like to see... There are many many more.
Fu Manchu, an orangutan at the Omaha, NE zoo, discovered a trap door that led from his enclosure to the furnace room. At night, he would descend into the furnace room and from there, jimmy open the door with a piece of wire he found and hid in his mouth, and escape, with his family (who he would let out), into the trees. Thinking the workers were careless and left a door open, they were going to fire them, but discovered what happened and took away the wire. Fu Manchu found another piece of wire and this time, wrapped it around his gums so they wouldn't see it even if he smiled. Though they changed the locks, once again, he figured out how to jimmy them open with the wire and again, each morning, he and his family would be found in the trees.
An orphaned leopard cub was raised by a guy in his kitchen (this was in India). When the cub grew up, he released her across the river into the wild. She mated and had 2 cubs, who she was raising in a cave. When the rains came and the level of the river rose, she was afraid of having her cave under water and not being able to find food, they supposed, because she brought her cubs to the kitchen where she was raised, knowing they would be safe there. They hadn't seen her in a really long time and didn't expect to ever see here again, but she acted like she had just come for a visit and took up her old spot and habits, as if she never left. Daily, she checked the water level and when it got lower, she got the guy who raised her to accompany her to the river, jumped in his canoe with her cubs, gave him a look that said "Home, James", and he rowed her back across the river, where she said good-by and went off to her cave with her cubs. They got it on home videotape. (a friend of mine actually saw this video...)
Animals have a sense of humor and laugh. Koko, the gorilla, who knows sign language, kept making the sign for red, even though the towels she was playing with were white. Every time the trainer corrected her, Koko made an even bigger sign for red (as if she were saying "I really mean RED!"). Finally, she picked up a tiny piece of red lint and held it up for the trainer to see, then burst out "laughing". She had played a joke on the trainer.
To lure 2 elephants back inside their enclosure at night, they put treats in it. The elephants figured out that they could prolong their time outside if one at a time went into the enclosure to eat the treats. They had to trust one another to not eat all the treats and leave the other nothing.
Every time a mahout would get drunk and crash, the elephant he worked with would pick him up and carry him home.
There are just a few of the amazing stories I have come across.... There are so many...
