1) SUMMARY

After being offered previously with eight gifts — love, compassion, harmony, Light, joy, oneness, gratitude and abundance — a ninth sage is stepping forward to also offer his invaluable contribution to humanity's global awakening.

One of the most precious values we hope to teach you is peace. For too many centuries your world has been engulfed in continuing violence that has climaxed in the last century, in your linear time, with terrible devastation. Throughout the universe, millions of civilizations have learned to live peacefully among themselves and with others and it is high time the people of your planet realize the utter foolishness of war. Without peace, no other soul qualities can flourish. Without true, universal peace, your civilization has no future and nearly all life will be doomed as so much efforts and resources are wasted in destructive pursuits while your natural environment is being shredded in tatters.

It often seems easier to explain what peace is not rather than illustrate what may stem from a peaceful atmosphere and gentle behavior. Imagine a world in which everyone deeply cares for the well-being of others. Imagine a life in which all attention is dedicated to expand one's awareness of and ability to express Love and all the other qualities, proper attitudes and states of awareness we have mentioned to you so far. Sense deep within you the well of peace from which flows out endless Light and unfathomable bliss. Only through experiencing first-hand the innate ability you each have to express within and around you the sublime vibrations of peace can you begin to understand the sheer magnitude of its power to positively affect your own sense of peaceful self-centeredness as well as the global sense of oneness gradually emerging amongst humanity as a whole.

There is not much time left for you to spread your spiritual wings and start manifesting the infinitely powerful talents you have been endowed with as part of your natural heritage as sons and daughters of the One Universal Being and Creator of All That Is. We plead with you that you consider what changes could be brought in your priorities not only to help bring about peaceful relationships with all your soul kins and, indeed, around your entire world, but also to resolutely set foot on the path leading to the co-creation of a world that is absolutely free from all forms of violence against all forms of Life. You have within you the power to be-come a true shining star of benevolence, Love and Peace. Please allow your Self to expand beyond the limiting confines of your lower self so as to encompass all that you truly are in a manifested expression of all that you can BE.

As you join in synchronous meditation with all other participants, worldwide, simply Be All The Peace That You Can Be, for the Highest Good of All.

I wrote and illustrated the first edition of Addicted to War following the first U.S. war against Iraq in 1991. The major news media had been reduced to wartime cheerleaders, and people of this country had been largely shielded from the ugly realities of the war. My aim was to present information difficult to find in the mainstream news media, and to explain America's extraordinary predilection to go to war. Ten years later, events compelled me to update the book. The September 11 attacks provided an opportunity for George W. Bush to declare a "War on Terrorism," which in practice turned to be an endless binge of war-making. The second edition was published in early 2002, following the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. The Bush Administration then turned to preparing for a new war against Iraq. A thin rhetorical veneer about combating terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction hardly concealed its underlying aim: to impose a new U.S. client regime in the heart of the Middle East and assure control over a country that has the world's second largest known oil reserves. As the present edition goes to press, the U.S. is occupying Afghanistan and Iraq. In an effort to quell armed resistance, the U.S. military is taking harsh punitive measures against the civilian populations of both countries, feeding a spiral of violence that has repercussions around the world and is placing us all in greater danger. This book chronicles over two centuries of U.S. foreign wars, beginning with the Indian wars. During this time, America's machinery of war has grown into a behemoth that dominates our economy and society and extends around the globe. Call for a Global Peace Vigil

Dear Sisters and Brothers of the Light

We came here in this world to manifest some of the innate divine potential we all inherit as souls/sparks of the One Divine Consciousness. All is in all and in all of us resides the power to make this world a Place of Harmony, a Kingdom of Peace, an Oasis of Love in an infinitely loving, caring, sentient and living universe.

We are now approaching the climaxing crossroad of our long evolutionary continuum of life as we near the end of a cycle and will soon open up a new chapter of our marvelous experience in the realm of matter and density.

At this crossroad, some very defining experiences and tests are awaiting us. The decisions and choices we each will soon make shall be the most revealing sign of our maturity and readiness to enter into a new exhilarating phase of our collective evolutionary journey or will mark the postponement of our participation to this global evolutionary journey.

Right now, a special test needs to be met with utmost dedication and continuous attention if this world is to enter - as planned and prepared for - into this new realm of loving, unifying and compassionate participation to the grand theatre of spiritual evolution.

On both sides of the polarity fence, tremendous forces have been gathered to make this experience one of the most challenging and most preciously illuminating ones as to our possibilities and abilities to overcome fear, manifest love and become the living examples of peaceful behaviour and cooperative collaboration towards social harmony and the wellbeing of all life forms.

The specifics of the exact circumstances of this challenge are not important. What matters is our inner sense of belonging to the Forces of Light, of being an Earth Healer and a living, breathing expression of the Divine Universal Consciousness, endowed with powers of redemption and magnification of the Good Will of Life beyond anyone's wildest imagining.

A human being is NOT just a body of bones, blood and flesh. When the living Spark of Consciousness leaves the body, it becomes inanimate and cold and begins to decompose. The Spirit that animates our bodies lives on and this Holy Spirit is what we really are. And as Spirits living for a given period in a vehicle of flesh, we still retain all our infinite powers and abilities. We just forgot it.

Now we remember.
Now we reawaken,
Now we become who we really are.
For now is the time to do so.

In the coming weeks and months, a great battle will be waged between those of the Shadow and those of the Light. Just as in the time of Atlantis, our world will face tremendous odds and have remarkable experiences to go through.

Whatever circumstances we might find ourselves in, let us always remember to keep the door closed to fear in our minds and trust that our indomitable and immortal Spirit will always find a way to guide us into the right place, inspire us with the right thoughts, words and actions and enable us to consume victoriously the perfectly designed plan for our redemption from the world of matter and illusion.

Whenever doubts creep in your mind, remember to reconnect with the living Spirit of God within you. Close your eyes if necessary, allow yourself to become in your own self-perception who you really are, and join in thoughts, Love and Lightful manifestation of your divine magnificence with all the millions and millions of soulmates and protecting angels and guides who, just like you, are contributing to make this world a perfectly healed and peaceful Eden of beauty and thus make manifest the blissful sense of Oneness with All That Is.

Maintain a spiritual linkage with your brethrens of the One Life, all over the Earth, on all dimensions, in a continuous overlapping Peace vigil, knowing that in every given moment, hundreds of thousands will be linked just like you into the continuum of healing Love radiating from each fragment of our One Soul to make this world anew into what it is meant to be, as we all know in the deepest recess of our heart.

And using all your connections and relations, spread the word in the physical realm of Life so as to share this Call for a Global Peace Vigil with all those who are ready and able to participate willfully and consciously into this keystone moment, at the hour of the greatest need.

This is our secret weapon, a tool so powerful that no matter what the others might attempt to do to disrupt us, they will never succeed in dismantling it. We are millions and millions of Soldiers of God/dess, Rainbow Manifestors of the sublime radiance of Love, scattered all over the Earth, trained, ready and able to wage one of the last battles to eradicate the power of Darkness from the face of this living Earth. And the place where this battle is waged, the very center of this battleground is in our very minds and hearts. Connected together in a living network of synergistic Light and Love, impregnated with the polarities of Mother Earth and Father Sun and detonated from within the crystal core of our living Spirit by the Will of God, we have already won the battle.

Inner Peace

We can only help make our lives and our world more peaceful, when we ourselves feel peace.

Peace already exists within each of us, if we only allow ourselves to feel its comfort.

Peace of mind begins when we stop thinking about how far we have to go, or how hard the road has been, and just let ourselves feel peace.

Peace of mind gives us the strength to keep trying and keep walking along the path that we KNOW is right for our lives.

The life of a peacemaker is a daily decision to refocus and rededicate ourselves to put peacemaking first in our list of priorities.

We refocus and rededicate our lives by allowing ourselves to feel inner peace so that we can once again see our greater purpose and know that our lives as peacemakers are making a difference. We are part of a movement that has worked throughout history towards humanity's greatest goal - creating peace on earth.

Willie Nelson's song does not confuse peace with passivity or promote acquiescence to violence in the guise of championing democracy.

Peace on Earth and goodwill toward ...? Last year at this holiday time, Willie Nelson was sitting at the kitchen table with his wife Annie, reading the newspaper accounts of the war in Iraq. The season of contradictions was upon the country music master. "Babies dying . . ." he observed, watching pictures of Iraqi children and their mothers in the vortex of war. "Mothers crying. Whatever happened to peace on earth?" he asked Annie.

Annie Nelson is a passionate activist, an intellectually gifted mother of two teenaged boys with a sharp sense of timing. She knows the power of the moment: "Write it down," she said to Willie. A song was born.

"Whatever Happened to Peace on Earth" is provocative, even hard-edged. It insists that we consider the paradox of a culture where many are sincerely desirous of peace, as contrasted with a government which crushes those aspirations, ruthlessly pursuing war while capitalizing on public disbelief or indifference.

"Whatever Happened to Peace on Earth" will not let us have our holidays both ways as we attempt to contort our consciences to balance the blatant immorality of war with the clear teachings of the Prince of Peace.

As you read the lyrics below, you see Willie does not confuse peace with passivity or promote acquiescence to violence and lies in the guise of championing democracy.

Those who have just celebrated the birth of the Christ know His Gospel was straightforward: "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God." Peace is the God-like spiritual value to heal a temporal world wracked with war, torture and deceit.

Yet how many of those who say "Jesus is the reason for the Season" act as though the Sermon on the Mount was delivered by victorious partisans of Capitol Hill (or the White House) as they self-righteously mix God and Patriotism in a toxic cauldron of war? We are all vulnerable to self-justifying pietism when it is wrapped in garlands of tinsel, evergreens and poinsettias. But you won't hear our flag-coccooned government resolving for peace in the New Year. Whatever happened to Peace on Earth... and to us?

This sacred holiday season as we hold close loved ones who give deep meaning to our lives, let us move past the comfort of reverie and peel back the gauzy nostalgic Currier and Ives-like tableau to join Willie and Annie and the Nelson family in asking "Whatever happened . . . . "

The United Nations defines "major wars" as military conflicts inflicting 1,000 battlefield deaths per year. In 1965, there were 10 major wars under way. The new millennium began with much of the world consumed in armed conflict or cultivating an uncertain peace. As of mid-2005, there were eight Major Wars under way [down from 15 at the end of 2003], with as many as two dozen "lesser" conflicts ongoing with varrying degrees of intensity.

Most of these are civil or "intrastate" wars, fueled as much by racial, ethnic, or religious animosities as by ideological fervor. Most victims are civilians, a feature that distinguishes modern conflicts. During World War I, civilians made up fewer than 5 percent of all casualties. Today, 75 percent or more of those killed or wounded in wars are non-combatants.

Africa, to a greater extent than any other continent, is afflicted by war. Africa has been marred by more than 20 major civil wars since 1960. Rwanda, Somalia, Angola, Sudan, Liberia, and Burundi are among those countries that have recently suffered serious armed conflict.

War has caused untold economic and social damage to the countries of Africa. Food production is impossible in conflict areas, and famine often results. Widespread conflict has condemned many of Africa's children to lives of misery and, in certain cases, has threatened the existence of traditional African cultures.

Conflict prevention, mediation, humanitarian intervention and demobilization are among the tools needed to underwrite the success of development assistance programs. Nutrition and education programs, for example, cannot succeed in a nation at war. Billions of dollars of development assistance have been virtually wasted in war-ravaged countries such as Liberia, Somalia, and Sudan.
